Is Tiger Woods a sinner?

The Vatican's new sins, among them are abortion (although this is kind of a new old sin), polluting the environment and excessive wealth. Now this last one I kinda agree with in this sense. Tiger Woods has more money than he knows what to do with or will ever use in his lifetime, hell if he runs out of Charmin ain't no thing to use 100 dollar bills. Now I wouldn't say excessive wealth in and of itself is sinful (the Vatican seems to be saying it is) but seems to me there is an almost moral obligation to use your excess to help others, to give to charity and other philanthropic purposes otherwise what's the point? Dunno but if you use it all for your own pleasure and lifestyle you turn into Hugh Hefner (yes I know he was very very concerned about all those displaced animals or pets or something after Hurricane Katrina) but, I don't know, what do you think?

  1. I agree with you, if you gain your wealth through legal and moral means, then I cannot see how the gaining of it is a sin.

  2. And I do think that many wealthy people and corporations have foundations that DO give back to the community.

  3. Although it must be pointed out many of them give to groups like Planned Parenthood (think Bill Gates) but I think the Vatican has always had a problem with capitalism. As I say if you keep all your "excessive" wealth to yourself I think this is grossly sinful but I think many rich people and corporations give back anyway so I don't see where the sin comes in.

  4. God gives us free will, and it it the capitalistic system that I would think models free will. The Vatican should embrace it, while reminding people that God also considers charity and good works to be important, too.

  5. I mean the Golden Rule, to treat others as you would want to be treated, can co-exist in a capitalistic society, as a matter of fact I think it is necessary. To attract business in a free market society, you have to treat your customers right, or you will not have customers.

  6. And you have to treat your workers right or you won't have workers. I think the late JP2's point and Benedict's is that morality has to be a part of our capitalistic system so seems to me we're all on the same page, just seems the Vatican goes overboard, I mean are they gonna hold an auction for all their priceless paintings and statues? This is not being sarcastic in the Joy Behar sense, I think Rome is so much the richer for these things, same could be said for what the good corporations do for our communities over here.

  8. I'm beginning to suspect most people don't think through their positions anymore before promulgating them like you'd think the Pope would be a little careful, the Vatican's value in terms of wealth is said to be really up there, Benedict: "let me rephrase that", and the ardent defenders of our capitalistic system need to think through their positions more, jobs going overseas, plants closing, layoffs, corporate greed and scandals. Let's all put our thinking caps on and have a real meeting of the minds.

  9. I just made the point at my blog in response to your comment but it applies here, too. The entitlement mentality has hurt America, individuals and corporations know the government is a safety net if things turn sour for them. Give people the room to succeed and I think they will. Afterall, it is in a company's best interest to have the rest of the country being solvent or else who will be there to buy their product or use their services?

Never went on welfare although Lord knows I could've with ease, took the most mundane jobs and didn't complain about 'em just did my work and paid my bills, earned my keep &

  14. I saw the back page of the Post the other day and I thought he was crying and yelling at the same time, I thought what pissed him off this time but it turns out he was merely happy, he won the tournament. I guess this gets him the most excited, his wife probably has to replay these moments to get him in the mood.

  17. He could probably solve our nation's housing crisis single-handedly and have some loose change left over but as Michelle Malkin would say people wouldn't learn their lesson then.

  18. The question remains though Beth, according to the Vatican is Tiger Woods going to Hell and is there a golf course down there?

  19. I don't know if Tiger is or not, but if being rich was a sin, he's not going to be alone, and being in eternity with Oprah could truly be Hell.

Anyhow, a golf course in Hell probably has lots of sand traps (no water ones though, lol).

  22. They come on all the time when I'm channel-surfing, maybe instead of our tv's having just the v-chip they should also offer a g or guru-chip, they're always hawking something and seems to me they replace God sometimes. Stick with the Good Book people.

  23. It's like I've been pondering the sleep gurus I guess we can call them and I've come up with a theory or someone told me this theory, that if you sleep very well one night there's sometimes a holdover effect, like the following night you won't be as tired and you'll get at best scattered sleep but is it really cause for alarm as the gurus would have it? Let's say you go to bed around 10:15, wake up at 3 and stay awake for awhile but then you drift off into a short dream so you've slept a little more, you wake up again, I mean do you need to see your nearest guru or can you analyze it on your own?
