Is McCain getting a free pass?

So far it's all about Barack Obama and his pastor problem, you know, the Rev. Jeremiah "God Damn This Country, Land That I Hate" Wright, and Barack was even forced to give a major speech distancing himself from the Rev's theology. For the last few days Hannity's been beating this horse on the airwaves but what about John McCain's own pastor problem? nary a word. McCain recently warmly accepted the endorsement of one John Hagee, prominent evangelical pastor and friend and advocate for Israel to the point where he has publicly said that when those Jewish settlers were forced to leave their settlements in the Gaza Strip God punished US with Hurricane Katrina. Not only that but Hagee holds that the Roman Catholic Church is the seat of the Antichrist. All Mac said was a tepid "I can accept someone's endorsement without agreeing with all of their positions." So where is his major Obama-esque speech clarifying his own Rev problem? and in fairness shouldn't Hannity be talking about this as well? I am not loyal to the Republican Party come hell or high water, I am loyal to conservative principles first, read into that what you will Mr. McCain.

  1. At this point I can't vote for the guy Beth, this goes to the heart of character, I don't care how many times he goes to the MidEast and Europe to show his presidential timber in foreign affairs. He's getting a free pass alright but not from these quarters.

  2. You have to wonder if McCain is at all concerned about losing the Catholic vote. Catholics tend Democratic anyway especially on things like Labor, this doesn't help.

  3. Maybe the Clintons are keeping it in their back pocket for whenever Hillary gets nominated, Obama certainly can't use it against McCain.

Either way, yeah I don't like McCain and this doesn't help.

I would like to crosspost this to my blog, if that is alright with you Z.

  4. You have my absolute permission but be aware that you are going to churn the waters a bit over there, lol. Do you have a life preserver and flares? I'll be there in my little rubber raft if you need me, spring water or Gatorade?

  5. Is the spring water safe???

  7. Cross-posted, thanks Z!

  8. I'm was just reading your cross-post and I have to say soapie as a federalist is very consistent re the Schiavo case, thing is I didn't look at it from the angle of Congress' involvement at the time, just that they were doing a horrible thing to the woman and that the original judge could have ruled alot better. I also saw it as an investigator might, why did she fall that fateful night? Fred Thompson also feels as soapie does and that's because he's a federalist too, ditto George Will. For me I always thought the debate was lethal injection proposed by the euthanasiasts and making the most out of what might be a far less than perfect life, the RTL position. Re Michael Schiavo there might even be a rare common ground here, nobody in either camp was for what he did or to put it another way the euthanasia crowd would like to move beyond these sorry spectacles and get right to assisted-suicide. These are the angles that interested me far more than the government angle and as the saying goes once the government gets involved in something they're sure to mess things up big-time.

  9. I guess that is the federalist position but I still think it's Congress' constitutional duty to protect individuals rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, isn't that what they were trying to do for Terri Schiavo?

  10. Which is why it didn't bother me at the time. Joe Sobran wrote about this angle, that even if government intervention was wrong from a strictly federalist angle what of it? they can still be forgiven because their intention was so noble, to save a woman's life. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing really to forgive.

  11. I said this at your cross-blog but what bothered me most about Terr's case was that it was so atypical. You usually know what caused the person to wind up in the condition he or she is in, many times it's a car accident. What do we really know about why Terri collapsed? The best we can come up with is the Too Much Iced-Tea Theory. Probably for most people it's what's so bothersome about the case.

  12. Bad things happen to good people all the time without reason, I just don't think we should be playing God.

  13. Seems the whole Schiavo case really polarizes people, doesn't it? Well anyway the Schindlers offered time and again to take her off his hands. Her alleged wishes were purely verbal, you'd think the least Congress could've done was to put it in writing, a law saying you can't have hearsay but explicit directives. The other thing, agree or disagree with what Congress did I thought you had to appear before a body issuing you a subpoena, Judge Greer gave 'em the middle finger. Congress started their involvement in the case but didn't stick it through, too afraid of NY Times and NY Post editorials I guess. Me? if I had to make such decisions first thing I'd do would be to order my staff don't buy any newspapers and leave 'em on my desk.

  14. Can you believe they're still talking about Bam's minister but Mac is still getting a free ride on the media roller-coaster (and that includes you Sean, you're a part of the msm now too), Bam's ferris wheel is still stuck rocking back and forth and he's getting nervous not to mention a little nauseous.

So who coined BAM as Barack's new political nickname? even Bob Novack has picked up on it. Reminds me of the Flintstones.

  15. I hadn't heard of BAM, but I am surprised it doesn't make you think of Emerill.

  16. It has a slight gay tinge to it (not that there's anything wrong with that, lol) much like "preggers" for pregnant, like if Obama accidentally walked into a gay bar some guy'd go "hey Bam".

  17. McCain might even want to consider calling himself MacDaddy or even M-Block.
