You go girl!

Reading about Anucha Brown Sanders going crazy at some auction, bidding on everything in sight, she of suing Isiah Thomas for sexual harassment fame, and there's nothing like 11 mil to make your pain go away and I've been wondering is this progress? Feminists have had their day in the sun but I think much of sexual harassment law actually encourages women to see themselves as victims and I don't see how this empowers women. Celebs taking their secret admirers to court, now the UMA guy is a certified nutbag but what I really think bothers these gals is they don't want some average Joe going after them, they'd rather have Denzel or Leo DiCapricio, I mean DiCaprio. Was Anita Hill a pioneer or did she set women back? and whatever happened to that time-honored tradition of just slapping a man across his face? You see the morning paper gives z a little agita. Anucha, go easy with your windfall, you're making your sisters look bad.

  1. I am not a sexual harrassment expert, but if its just words to me that doesn't seem like a big deal. If its that you lose your job if you don't do such and such, that is a problem. If there is unwanted physical harrassment, then that is a big problem. Maybe making the mountains out of molehills is wherein the problem lies.

  2. I agree with everything you said. Going to the Mall now for a bite to eat and then for a walk, I'll catch ya later.

  3. I have some running around to do myself, and I babysit my nephew this afternoon. But he is good about playing while I am online for a little.

    Enjoy your walk!

  4. Walk didn't work out, in the country here there's a nice trailway for cyclists and joggers only thing is there's no clear-cut parking lot, there's a post office and the second lot seems to be for the workers of some company so I didn't want to get a ticket or, worse, get towed away in the boondocks. They should have a space reserved for motorists who want to use the trail or else a clear-cut sign explaining the situation. At least the Mall was better.

  5. Now this topic which conservatives within recent memory used to complain about but as everything tends towards liberalism anyway they seem to have accepted it all (Paula Jones seemed to have changed their minds and then they got with the Program), sometimes there's something about a topic that sticks in the craw and for many men I think it's this. Now let's say there's no quid pro quo of which you speak Beth, no actual physical groping either, at the foundation, the very pillar of sexual harassment law, is whether the woman wants you or not and so there's a built-in phoniness in the system. It was often pointed out in those days that gray areas make bad law. Think about it, every other law is clear-cut, from copyright infringement to paying off your mortgage but the standard here seems to be purely subjective, if you're offended. How does one define mountain and one define molehill?

  6. Good question, hence your problems with courting women today, huh?

  7. & as for the celeb issue which for some reason we're seeing more and more of, I remember in the olde days when Paula Abdul was hot, in the '80s, she'd get alot of fan mail and many letters were from men, suitors if you will, and she joked about it, found the letters nice. Maybe it was because she was not a super-celeb, in the pantheon if you will, but today any rational man watching the news would never do such a thing. So it's like we have all these issues in tandem, women are always the victim, the classic damsel-in-distress scenario and yes nutcases and shlubs do taint the playing field for everyone else but as Moms like to say Life used to be so simple.

  8. Sorry the walk didn't work out, its very sunny here today but much cooler. I had grand ideas of walking to the library myself, but the insomnia last night has left me exhausted today.

  9. Do you think maybe celebrities get too much exposure (not just wearing a sheet in Vanity Fair, but just so many outlets to see them and hear them interviewed) that people find them more attainable than they were back in the Simpler Days?

  10. We don't really even use the word "courting" anymore, too medieval for modern minds, too Cyrano de Bergerac-ish but it's like this for many men today. Say you see a chick you like in the library and I saw this happen once, some awkward shmo went up to some young woman who went to the library alot, she complained about it to the director and me and my friend were saying what crime exactly was committed? Methinks it's because he looked like Shrek. The workplace is like walking on eggshells, another friend of mine says don't dip your pen in the ocmpany ink, and so I really don't get involved but I think all the legislation post-Anita Hill follows the Law of Unintended Consequences, men are gonna do their work and keep to themselves and then go home and have a beer and watch the game, probably not exactly what many women want who be open for business.

  11. I think you're definitely on to something there Beth, they do seem so down to earth talking to O or being interviewed by Matt Lauer, it kind of encourages celebrity worship in and of itself. Many people who read the tabloids like "People" consider them members of their own family (which is kinda scary if you ask me). You have some great insights Beth, insomnia or no insomnia.

  12. I would think the library would be a good place to meet someone, better than at a bar, imo.

  13. Maybe you bring out the best in me, Z.

  14. I know what you mean about the sleep thing Beth, maybe there's something about thinking about your grand plans that interferes with them. I always say to myself before my day off "if it works out" and then it usually does. Also I don't let all the medical "experts" get to me, I aim low like 4 hours, 5 hours shuteye and I usually get more btw but even if I didn't I've gone to work many times on 4-5 and didn't feel as bad as I thought. Even during the lowest moments in my life I never really had that much trouble sleeping, I'm beginning to think it's more organic, more biological than that like we don't drink enough water during the day and so hydrate our brains. I know a guy who lost alot of weight through the simple act of giving up soda (can't quite do that but I've lessened up). Geez, we cover everything in this blog don't we? (race relations, sleep, celebrities) Anyone wanna bring up some Art Bell topic be my guest.

  15. Yes, your blog does cover the most extensive topics, which is why it is so enjoyable, never a dull moment in Z-land!

  16. And I will try to hydrate myself, certainly couldn't hurt.

  17. "I would think the library would be a good place to meet someone, better than at a bar imo."

I guess Shrek didn't realize some chicks are just into studying, just studying their little brains out, that is until some Billy Dee Williams character rolls along - lol. Check out those Asian chicks doing homework in some Barnes & Noble cafe, you'd be lucky to get the time of day out of them.

  18. You know a few times when I had trouble falling asleep I popped a couple of regular Tylenol, not even the PM version, and within a 1/2 I was in dreamland. Love that Advil PM commercial where one guy takes some Tylenol PM and is tossing and turning all night and the Advil PM guy is fast asleep, some ads are a real hoot. You want a solution? couple glasses of brandy on the rocks with some ginger ale in the evening, lie down in bed and ten minutes later BAM! you're out like a light. This flies in the face of the Health Lobby out there who are in our face about everything these days but hey for many people it's the equivalent of a Lunesta.

  19. Then again one thing could lead to another, an insomniac could become an alcoholic, lol. Hey, Life ain't risk free.

    ReplyDelete
  20. As long as I keep in mind all things in moderation, I should be okay. Minimizes risks that way.

  21. Well my nephew is done with lunch and looking for me to play a game with him, so I will have to say good-bye for now, but it's always nice chatting with you. Best of luck tomorrow morning.

  22. you want an Art Bell topic, well here's one. dreaming is really an out-of-body experience, let's get the ball rolling on that one.

  23. An alcoholic can also become an insomniac. Read an old case study where some guy had problems, really drank alot, and then he gave up the drink but then had trouble sleeping, seems he had better sleep when he drank. Everything in moderation right Beth, 'cept Love.

  24. Well since I've yet to hear a real Scientific Explanation on where exactly is the projection room inside our heads and how it all works Anon at least offers a theory. I think some people are actually afraid to fall asleep and maybe this accounts for some of their insomnia, you can't really control your dreams, they're so funkadelic. Some nights it seems like pure dreaming, like a matinee all night long, interesting though.

  25. It's not right though when you dream about Work all the time as I do, at least you should get paid for it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh Z, we have got to replace work dreams with much better dreams, like think of a place you'd like to visit when you are ready to fall asleep and maybe your dreams will take you there!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I remeber dreams much more lately, but for most of my life I don't remember them. Maybe my projector was broken, and they finally got the parts??

  28. Had a dream last night everyone came over for Mother's Day but I thought it was the following Sunday so I'm gonna take my sister on a quick trip to Walgreen's, your typical anxiety dream. My dreams are never boring though, always packed with drama.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's a week from Sunday, you've got time. Unless you got your mom one of those birthday gifts that includes Mother's Day.

  30. I think this was the point of my dream because when I woke up I was relieved, some dreams are that real, and I said to myself the same thing, I got time. Who knows why we dream stuff.

  31. I was thinking maybe we can have ads for our blogs like "this blog brought to you in part by Advil PM", maybe then I could retire (or semi-retire, a good part of my revenue would go to filling up the old Honda).

    ReplyDelete
  32. Goodness, if the ads reflected some of the conversations we've had here, I can just imagine what kind of ads would pop up. Porno Pete alone would generate quite some interesting ones I'm sure!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'll take the Tylenol ad, you can have the Advil one. As for pete we might just have to censor that stuff.
