Was Jesus a liberal?

This is really a Dave Miller thread. I just might watch Beth and Dave from the grandstands for 3 innings or so as I enjoy my piss-warm beer and overpriced hot dog.

  1. Sounds like you are at a baseball game. If so, you'll enjoy my post on role models.

To your question, it depends on what your meaning of the word "liberal" is.

If we take the current understanding of the word, He probably leans more in that direction than to the conservative side.

He was certainly for change, challenged the religious leaders and status quo of the day, and stood up for the poor, not only with His words, but with His actions.

His lifestyle of little, or no paid work in His ministry days, does not seem to fit the standard Protestant work ethic mantra.

So this should get us started.

    Great question.

  3. Dave, how do liberals stand up for the poor?

  4. Not part of this post Beth... but remember, liberals stood pretty strong alongside MLK in the civil rights protests and those helped a lot of poorer Americans.

  5. I think Martin Luther King was a Republican.

  6. If memory serves Charlton Heston marched in those civil rights protests right alongside MLK and Robert Byrd was a KKK member. Carry on...

  7. Politics & theology: if Jesus was the son of God,
integral to the trinity, then are we not inquiring as to the politics of God?

  8. I agree, Jesus was about love, not politics!

  9. But more and more the Church, MY Church seems to be saying that Jesus had some sort of political message. To understand LA Cardinal Roger Mahoney's views on illegal aliens you need to understand his views on Jesus.
