Obama, in over his head

After a quick browsing through the latest events in Libya I get the impression in some ways that French president Nicolas Sarkozy is the president Obama should have been. France seems to be taking the lead in enforcing a UN Security Council resolution for a ceasefire and French jets were seen flying over the rebel-held city of Benghazi in eastern Libya. According to the latest reports a plane was shot down over the outskirts of Benghazi to the cheers of rebels (in the newswire I read it simply said plane although judging from the reaction it must have been Libya's). Sure there are arguments against a no-fly zone ranging from it is for all intents and purposes an act of war, our troops are already stretched thin in Iraq and Afghanistan and enforcing a no-fly would have the effect of making Khadafy a hero in the Arab world (huh, from villain to hero in one fell swoop?) but I can no longer subscribe to the paleo-conservative/libertarian position of non-interventionism in such tragic cases. Khadafy and his ministers are pretty much telling the U.S., Britain and France to mind their own business and if in the paleocon mind this has some validity I would ask if the same could have applied to Hitler. The Tunisian and Egyptian uprisings went well for the Mideastern rebels but in this case seems they need that extra push from the international community. It is a moral thing we are finally doing, it's heartening and let's not forget for those libertarian non-interventionists out there we still have those four New York Times journalists missing in Libya which I know the Randian party line would probably go along the tune of that never would have happened unless......Well now at least Obama gets spared his version of Bill Clinton's Rwanda even though it's not so much he took the lead but got pulled along. God so much going on in the world the last few weeks!

  1. When Clinton was elected, I prayed he would at least surround himself with capable people, I didn't make the same prayer when Obama was elected, but I wish I had, because it is very obvious that his administration, besides leaning towards communism, also have no idea what to do about foreign policies.

  2. IMO, our options in Libya were:
    1. Do nothing
    2. Declare Gadhafi had WMDs
    and unilaterally invade the place.
    3. Build a coalition which
    especially involved the Arab countries.
    The first would cheer the
    liberatarians and piss off
the civilized world; the second would put us in another interminable ground war in a desert.
The third is an experiment which may or may not work.
Foreign policy is tricky stuff. At best. Personally, I hope they
    napalm Goofdafhi's wardrobe....

  3. It's a terrible thing but for some reason every time I see him I think of Carlos Santana. (It might be that wardrobe.) Anyway, I just always expect him to break out into Oye Como Va..

...I do love Santana. But on the other hand, my great uncle George was the spitting image of Yasser Arafat. These things happen.

  4. Shame on the Obama administration, shame on all those politicians that don’t cry out and who let him get away with doing this without going to Congress first. .. And does anyone realize or even care how thinly spread the US military is right now? I say let the Muslims handle their own affairs. When the hell are we going to learn.. Why do the Libs feel that this is any better then what George Bush did with so many more reason to do what he did? Where is the outcry of Obama being a “WARMONGER”
And how in the world can anyone justify this arrogant dingbat going and continuing his vacation at the same time as sending our people off to war! This is insane to put it mildly.
Lets see if the Liberals are going to protest this and cry to charge Obama with war crimes and put him on trial !!!!! Sound familia?

  5. Bottom line, This whole mess is BS. And for our Leader to be vacationing right now is a slap in the face to EVERY American.

  6. Some other choices fir BB-Idaho

    1. I don't know why we're ever there!
    2. Where are the Senators, Congressmen saying” I wasn't briefed or consulted about this”
    3. I don't know what the mission is going to accomplish?
    4. I don't believe my country can afford the military resources to be deployed in 3 Fronts at the same time.
    5. I don't understand why we Americans run every time there is a problem in the Arab world. They would never do the same for us.
6.. Why didn’t Obama get congress to approve before we committed our armed forces to danger?

  8. What I love is the Silence from the lefties about that NUT-JOB in the White House getting us into another war. Their silence is deafening.

  9. Talking to my Dad the other day. Now bear in mind he's a rock-ribbed all-American conservative, served in the Navy during WW2, drove a truck for almost 50 years. He's paid his dues (if the guy wants to light up a cigar let him) so anyways we're rapping about politics as usual and he says to me now he doesn't agree with Hillary on everything, the feminism stuff but he then said and this from a guy who NEVER votes for the Democrat in all his life that he thinks Hillary would have been a better president than Obama.

    I rest my case:)

  10. Nomadiam I could have done without the excursion into Iraq personally, this would have freed us up more for events like these. Soap I'm sure you've heard but ever since WW2 things have changed, it's known as war crimes and crimes against humanity and the Geneva Convention and Nuremberg and the international community and it's not enough anymore for any budding Hitler or Saddam-wannabe to say mind your own business, don't meddle in our internal affairs. Mal, Hillary was right when she said she'd be the one better able to handle that 3 AM phone call.

  11. If it's about war crimes and crimes against humanity and Geneva and budding Hitlers then (and forgive me cuttin' straight to the chase on this) who the FUCK is going to take our dear leaders to task for their atrocities under the guise of "humanitarian" efforts?

It's about fucking oil period. If it was about nipping budding Hitlers then one would have to ask why some budding Hitlers get a 2 minute timeout and others get million dollar Tomahawk missiles.

It's a heaping crock o' shit and you can smell it from a miles out.

The Empire will crumble. Maybe not tomorrow. Maybe not next week or next month but make no mistake the Empire will crumble and when it does I'm gonna light one up and smile all the while reminding anyone within earshot that "I told you so."

  12. Hillary would have pulled the same shit as Obama. She'd only have smiled less while doing it.

  13. And in fact, I would argue that almost all of this Obama administration foreign policy is in fact Hillary's handywork.

Seems to me that were it truly Obama's, he'd be spending more time and attention to it.
