& the award for Best New Political Artist goes to AOC

I get the feeling Trump wins reelection in 2020 because the Democratic field is so diluted from which a real powerhouse is unlikely to emerge.  What are there twenty candidates now?  Cardi B may as well run.  Impeachment seems not much worth it to quoth Nancy Pelosi.  My mind is tired.  I've moved onto other things.  It might be a good thing if Maroon 5 stopped churning out new songs.

    1. She says what she thinks, a bit of a firebrand, uber liberal. More likeable than Trump.

  4. Maroon 5? Really? You're right, they've been everywhere, but I'm no fan.

AOC??? Let's wait a while and see if she can accomplish something before she gets knighted or sainted.

  5. Modern vacuums with their thermal regulators. What used to be an hour of vacuuming can now take half a day. Motor shuts off to prevent overheating. Go out on the patio and have a cigar. After about forty minutes resume vacuuming. Happens again. Watch a short movie. It's not like you were doing anything else.

  6. Z... you're so random. But here's one. I watch TV through a ROKU connection. But like your vacuum, it's constantly overheating. What am I supposed to do? Have my cigar in the middle of the show?

Speaking of appliances... the cost of washing machines has increased about 80 bucks to deal with Trumps tariffs. Okay, I get that. However, there are no tariffs on dryer. And their cost went up too. The same amount. Why? Because ppl buy these items in tandem and the makers wanted the extra $80 and could blame it too on the tariffs...

    Talk about vacuums sucking...

  7. One could talk about the Mueller Report or Joe Biden running for president. I guess with Biden he'd be the big name in this crowded Democrat field. I never disliked him per se but he lacks the charisma factor imo. He has that look of some random relative you meet at a wake or family party. $15/hr. is now the legal minimum wage in NY State with a complicated series of steps/phase-ins over the years of course. While I lean towards a theoretical minimum (not 100% conservative I guess) this is where they lose me. I mean why not make everyone make as much as a bus driver ya know? I mean fair is fair. Where does it end?

  8. Anyone who reads me knows I lean left. But on minimum wage, I remember those days when I worked for that wage. I was a kid. 16-17 years old. I just needed some spending money.

Are we trying to give folks a wage whereby they can raise a family? Minimum wage used to be where ppl worked to learn how to work. But no longer, its become a regular job.

Look, in 1979 when I was managing for Carl's Jr in Las Vegas, we paid a dime over minimum at $3.00 for folks to start. That gave them $520.00 gross a month. I had a 2 bdrm apt at $250, with a pool. About 50% of the minimum. Literally, you could live on that and make it work.

Today, that minimum is going to be about $1300 a month in Vegas. A 2 bdrm apt in the same area is gonna eat up about $1000 of that. Leaving you with what? Basically nothing.

The problem is that of course, costs have risen faster and higher than income.

And it infiltrates the entire system. Unless you're a CEO.

    It's a mess.

  9. I think what uber-libs like Gov. Cuomo in New York are for and are subscribing to is not really a minimum wage but what's called a living wage. How far and how fast they've moved on this amazes me but then again I wasn't paying that much attention. Seems like yesterday even libs like Obama who support the minimum wage were saying $15/hour might not be the way to go. Too high too far and too fast and there was a real discussion and debate even among lefties now we have a $15 minimum wage in NY State. Of course labor unions just sign off on any minimum wage idea or proposal. Let's say they raised the minimum tomorrow to $25/hour or $35/hour the Democratic union leadership would just sign off on that. No thought involved. Dave you're a leftie but not so far left you're out there floating around in intergalactic space with the likes of Andrew Cuomo and AOC.

    1. Weird economy: local paperplant has 1500 union workers who
are negotiating to keep their wages and benefits. During
the talks, the plant manager drove past the pickets waving
a sign that read 'Poor Baby's' [sic]. I've been around enough strikes and labor negotiations to figure that was in poor taste...as did the Corporation, who fired him the next day. We make fun of Europe, but they respect their working people. Just saying.

  10. Considering post-Singularity- will the robot masters have two
political parties? Like maybe the Quants and the Cubits? Slogans like 'more access to batteries', 'build a wall to keep out the Humans' and 'take care of our injured robot soldiers'?

    1. Geordie Rose co-founder of D-Wave Quantum Computers has a new outfit devoted soley to AI and building synthetic humans. He waxes poetic about mankind's need to build robots that can do things better and faster than us humans. There are already scores of YouTube vids about ai robots like Sophia. Am I one of the few not ok with this? Me and Elon Musk.

    2. Power went out this morning. Neighbor next door, an electrician, was grilling pork ribs. He opined that if or
when the electric grid goes out, we are all in a heap of
primitive trouble. Should we be survivalists? 5G: my son
bought some acres in N Idaho mountains, hired a builder and was going to build a home. Last month they started putting up an 800 ft cell tower next to him. He was informed that he had no chance in courts (it is illegal to argue that zillions of mini-microwaves will harm your
      infants...and 5G is wonderful..your refrigerator will tell
you when you get low on chicken.) He calls it Wi-phooey.
