Mitt Romney had a better grasp of foreign policy

Just sayin'. Most countries these days are responsible for at least one or two positive contributions to the civilization-at-large. Of course everything is Made in China today but Japan has given us superior cars and cameras for example and even South Korea has Samsung headquartered there. Has Russia ever given us a digital camera, a computer chip, a smartphone or a new tablet? Russia is known for two things only - vodka and its military buildup. I remember learning in high school that a large % of the Russian economy, maybe it's even the majority is devoted to its keeping up its military might. Putin is an anachronistic leader and seems to have a very bad case of those cold war blues. Putin doesn't like Pussy Riot, he doesn't like the gays and he's not into going forward. Of course Obama's red lines mean nothing, it'd be like Gilbert Gottfried being a bar bouncer. A former director in the KGB vs. a former Chicago community organizer and I'm thinking my Dad is right Hillary would have been a better president at least on the world stage. So what's gonna happen now if Crimea becomes officially annexed to Russia again? is Obama gonna issue one of them executive orders he likes so much say banning the import of their famous drink? It's like as soon as the Sochi Olympics were over Putin couldn't wait to get back to the action. So has anyone apologized to Mitt Romney yet?

  1. Sure, "Russia is known for two things only - vodka and its military buildup." We're
too embarrassed to admit how they prop up ourSpace Program .

    1. The point stands. How many cosmonauts in orbit at any one time vs. civilization-at-large? Most folks aren't gonna go into space but most folks are increasingly dependent on day-to-day technology like smartphones, digital cameras and tablets. Ya got a Russian quad-core hybrid laptop/tablet for me Android-powered with some thousand apps to choose from?

    2. True, the Russians lag behind in Toys R Us stuff.

    3. Must be hell shopping for gifts in Russian gallerias. They're more into their little military adventures than trying to make the world a better place.

    4. When NASA started sending astronauts into space, they quickly discovered that ball-point pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat this problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion developing a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to over 300° C.
      The Russians used a pencil.

    2. Seems Putin can't even afford a shirt. Russia has turned very conservative and after watching CPAC, I guess we
should all look forward to that.

    4. Quiet Mike? Is he the one who wants to bankroll the Jihad of the steppes?

    5. I don't agree with his analysis. Putin is a throwback to them Cold War days and most conservatives are not down with that. RE CPAC Rand Paul has been a big star there and I believe he came in #1 or 2 in their latest straw poll.

    6. CPAC Strawpoll-
      Jack Kemp three times
      Mitt Romney four times
      Ron Paul twice
      Rand Paul twice ....and....
George Bush once, in 2000 and never thereafter.
Apparently CPAC's criteria are concentrated on issues the electorate
      isn't ?

    7. The late Jack Kemp was always my favorite conservative. He had a wide appeal to blacks and Latinos for a conservative, was a Reaganite but seemed flexible. As Sec'y of HUD he didn't just focus on the rich and powerful as today's conservatives so often do and it's just too bad the guy is dead.

    8. Kemp wasn't as scary as the current crop, IMO, but I've never bought into
      TrickleDown.

    9. Kemp should be the model esp. with the GOP's consistent lack of appeal to blacks and Latinos. He also had a kind of appealing personality not dull like Mitch McConnell and not wonk-nerdy like Paul Ryan. Dunno, I don't find Jeb Bush that scary but I don't think he's part of the current crop if you mean candidates.

  4. On Romney's foreign policy expertise, I see that Jeep plant in Ohio he predicted would move to China is working 60 hour weeks and has hired another 1000 American workers. IMO, his foreign experience consisted mostly of places in the
world where he could store $$$ tax free. Actually, he wasn't as conservative as the
conservatives wanted and the Fundies just don't like Mormons, ya know?

  5. Overseas tax shelters notwithstanding I would trust Romney's judgement on Putin over Obama's.

    1. Whatever president's judgement is distilled from his foreign relations staff.
Romney had 17 of GW Bush's necons advising him. Bush, as you recall
v Putin/ ""I looked the man in the eye. I found him to be very straight forward and trustworthy and we had a very good dialogue.
"I was able to get a sense of his soul." So, what would Romney have done?
Pulled out all the troops he had in Syria, Libya and Iran and shipped them up to Sevastapol?

    2. Don't think Romney would have cancelled that missile defense project in the Czech Republic and Poland just 'cause Putin got a little cranky about it and Obama wanted to placate him. McCain thinks we should restart it since Russia's actions in the Crimea and I'm inclined to agree.

    1. BB I'm no fan of Mr. Trudeau but I seriously don't get his punishment. So he's a huckster, does that mean everyone behind those infomercials can go to prison? We all know they're a load of crap. It's my understanding Mr. Trudeau wrote a very dubious diet book so do I think he should go to prison over it? No, I just don't buy the book.

      Delete
    2. You would think so. I guess he was found in contempt from an earlier trial
in which he was to stop huckstering fake medicines; which he continued to do. Kind of like nailing Capone on tax issues, ya know? Kev claims
he was an expert because he had special vibrational DNA, IMO he was a latter day PT Barnum, sucker every minute type, He sold a ton of books, and I buy a ton of books, but have no Trudea volumes. I agree the sentence seems harsh (say compared to OJ) and the problem is not
Trudeau- it is the suckers who buy crap they see on TV.

    3. Yeah I mean unless I'm missing something I don't know how they can prosecute a case like this. By this measure why wasn't Billy Mays a convicted felon? We got a prison overcrowding issue among other things and we wanna throw people like Trudeau and Dinesh D'Souza in there.

    4. Kevin Trudeau had special DNA that had unique vibrations: some of his stuff demonstrated how to eat right and get those good vibrations.
Pseudoscientific hokum, of course, but what the heck if creationism explains the biological sciences, all snake oil is good.

  7. Why not go into one of them As Seen on TV stores and just arrest everyone?

  8. Credit Obama with better seeing the light about Putin late than never. There's a kind of back and forth going on now between the US and Russia, we've put restrictions and sanctions on their VIPs and they're doing the same to us but as McCain and the others have said they'll just have to cancel their vacation plans for Siberia. International relations are now on a Brady Bunch level.

  9. All I'm saying is the man had a better initial take on Putin than Obama did. Can't we give him that?
