I pretty much don't watch SNL It's past my bedtime

Everybody's still talking about Tom Hanks and his stupid spoof of a racist MAGA supporter on SNL's 50th Reunion Special.  This was stupid on so many levels.  It's a time-honored comedic tradition to go after the president but not the people who voted him into office.  Plenty of Bill Clinton jokes back in the day but no jokes about Bill Clinton supporters per se.  Tom Hanks' career is basically over at this point.  Other than that I just don't watch the show.  Hash it up if you want but SNL is well past its prime.

  1. Past my bedtime also. But as I recall, Tina Fey was a better Sarah Palin than ol Sarah was. You ever notice a lot of folks like to give it out, but can't take it? Have to be nice today, cat doesn't know he has a vet appointment. shhh

  2. Watched a lot of the SNL special. Painful to sit through. I wish they devoted more time to showing old clips.

  3. You talk'n smack about my favorite actor? Been acting all his life, got a string of excellent films from Forrest Gump to a Man Called Otto and married to the same woman for 37 years. But, I'll bite - who should have played the 'spoof of a racist MAGA supporter'? Pee Wee Herman? Stephen Colbert? Nicholas Cage? Leonardo DeCaprio?
Weak area as I am not a big movie guy - Tom Seiver? Johnny Depp?
Re-write the script, maybe get Mel Brooks to direct. Shhh - cat still doesn't realize it is Vet Day.

  4. NOBODY should have played a racist MAGA supporter. Comedians, sketch shows always make jokes about the current president but generally don't make jokes about the voters or supporters who put that president in office. That's alienating humor if that's your thing. Sometimes I make a point on my blog that seems to skate right over your head. Hanks and SNL insulted over half the country. I would think a nostalgia show would aim to appeal to a broad spectrum. Why not just make fun of Trump?

    1. Must have hit a sore spot. I saw a bit, but it was mostly racial, not even funny. Gave FoxNews a lot of complaining air time. Cat back, expensive - but improving for an old guy. Vaccine/anti vaccine news - researchers at Stanford working on a vaccine that is applied like a creme. Doubt many
are anti-vax because they are afraid of needles. Now, if they can do that with the Ozempic shots. --

    2. What's up with the Ozempic people going blind? Skinny but can't see.

I know a couple of fervent Trumpers. I wouldn't call them racist though. Bill Maher called the SNL skit lazy material.

  5. Nevertheless I watched a good chunk of the special. Unfunny bits that dragged on way too long. I'm not talking about the Hanks sketch just the show in general. Should have showed more of the old classic clips. As has been amply observed SNL isn't funny anymore.

    1. I watched their take off about Jeopardy - Will Ferrell was Alex Trebeck, contestants Tom Siever, Sean Connery and Adam Sandler. All stupid. Sometimes I like stupid. It has been reported than SNL did over 50 Jeopardy skits. Better than the
'My Pillow' ads (which SNL may or may not have done, dunno.) I don't know anyone who got laid off by the Feds,
      yet.

  6. A kind of consensus one of the greatest SNL sketches is the word association one between Chevy Chase and Richard Pryor. Another good one Dan Ackroyd as a plumber.

  7. Any predictions of next 3.8 years? Dunno, like Homan deports Melania,
RFK Jr. injured by falling tanning lamp, US becomes 11th Canadian Province, Z-Man receives Nobel Prize for Feral Cat Rescue? All mind boggling stuff.

  8. Will Musk fire half the country? Will he fire himself? Will Homan self-deport? RFK Jr. steps on a rusty nail. Does he go and get a tetanus shot?
