It is not a consuming issue for me though I am aware of it. Talking about Bari Weiss the new editor-in-chief over at CBS News. Not popular among many journalists at the moment. Said to be right-leaning in favor of Trump. Did shelve a story at the last minute that 60 Minutes was going to run about CECOT the notorious El Salvodoran prison where many of the illegals were sent. Aired about a month later after being picked up by a Canadian streaming app. So that was pretty much on the back burner for me until it took a harder edge the other day with the firing of longtime 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley. Now it peaked my interest. Pelley had a kind of meltdown at a staff meeting ripping Weiss and his new executive producer a couple of new ones and was subsequently fired by Weiss for cause. Lest this turn into an essay I'll save other thoughts about Mr. Pelley in the Comments section.
A quick google. Weiss is liberal on social issues but more conservative even outspoken on other issues like woke and cancel culture and DEI. Voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020. Describes herself as "politically homeless." Even if you subscribe to the conspiracy theory that Trump somehow put her in charge at CBS News that's only one network. This hardly amounts to State-run programming. Big snookers.
It's a story. Worth doing a blogpost on.
I haven't watched 60 minutes in years, preferring old episodes of M.A.S.H. My only interest is the power play where Trump engineered the takeover of CBS by Paramount. Does that not smack o State Run Programing? Ya think Pelly will be replaced by Hannity?
ReplyDeleteIt's only one network. He doesn't control all the media. Most of the msm is anti-Trump. Always has been.
DeleteZ-man... who are you putting in the main stream media crowd that is anti Trump?
DeleteMy whole newsfeed had tons of anti-Ttump links during the campaign. The New York Times took it to another level. Now that I'm anti-Trump myself ain't no thing.
DeleteI guess I see it this way, at least as it relates to the "main stream media". For years mostly all talk radio has been conservative. Think Rush, Hannity and more. Sure, the libs had a couple of national guys, both their shows were horrible.
DeleteThe number one cable news network has been FOX for years. Yes, the left has MS Now, nee MSNBC, but that's one major outlet. Now on the conservative side, add RT, OAN and NewsMax and their voice is hardly being shushed.
Now a Trump ally has purchased CBS and is in the process of killing 60 Minutes, such a liberal bastion my GOP Committee Grandfather in Fort Lauderdale watched it every night.
Now CBS/Paramount has also bought CNN. Are they also left leaning lame stream media?
ABC has been cowed already too.
Print? The right has plenty of access through the Washington Times, Epoch Times and more. Let's not forget most of the legacy news ops are shut out of the Pentagon and now have limited access to the White House so groups like LindellTV, the Pillow Giy Network and Gateway Pundit, the stupidest guy on the internet, can have access.
Under the guise of showing "our news".
But what happens when "your news" is lies? Is that when it becomes "our truth" as I've heard? Are these the "alternate facts" Kellyanne Conway spoke of?
The right does in fact currently have the media under at least some level of control. And that control comes from POTUS Trump.
But there's the rise of independent media. Print is so yesterday. How many people pick up a paper anymore? There's plenty of right wing independent media and also plenty of left wing independent media. Think of it this way they all balance each other out. I watch clips on YouTube all the time. Right and left podcasters. A couple of the liberal ones always come across as angry and a bit unhinged so I hit Don't Recommend. David Pakman comes across as palatable. He doesn't hyperventilate and tries to be fair.

So Bari Weiss it's my understanding wants more voices from the Trump Administration to be heard in coverage of some major news stories. Hardly rises to the level of conspiracy. Might even be good journalism. She's all over the political map. Hard to connect the dots here.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Scott Pelley has more money than most of us. He can afford to be openly critical at staff meetings. Most of us can't afford to be that critical at our own staff meetings. Journalists are a self-important class.

$20 million. So far 3 mule deer and a bob cat have used it. Here in ID the mule deer use the traffic lights on Thain and 17th. Last I heard from Saty, she had damaged 3 cars hitting deer traveling between work and her home up in the mountains. How's Yonkers handle it?
In my whole entire life I only hit one squirrel. Felt bad about it but they're erratic when crossing the road.
ReplyDeleteIf the Hairy Man does indeed exist Saty will be the first to hit one.

ReplyDeletecat.. Seems it was sleeping on her car radiator, fell into the fan belt when she turned it on. She dragged the distraught owner over and made him clean up the mess. Me? Ran over a mother pheasant and her five chicks on the way to work. Still in mourning.
BB... you're too much with those names from the past. There were a host of others, but they've all moved on to other interests or the great beyond.
