Economics not being my strong suit. It is not an uncommon business practice that when someone leaves, passes on or retires the company doesn't replace them. Many companies probably won't even officially acknowledge they've adopted a policy of attrition but the remaining workers are bound to notice over time. Everybody else has to work harder of course and in some cases you're left with a skeleton crew. I feel like at work in our department we're skeletal or close to it. So rather than rambling further I would submit that Trump instead of firing some top labor stats person should make a sincere effort to understand the numbers better if they are poor. The question: how common is the business policy of attrition and how significantly does it affect the jobs report?
The policy of attrition at least doesn't involve firing somebody. On the other hand, over-working the remaining people gives the Ivory Tower something to brag about. Big electrical mfg here hires a lot of foreign engineers. Trump ordered such places to pay an extra 'entrance training' fee. Owner sent the prez an unkind letter. As for skeleton crews, only recourse is to find another job, hopefully one that they look forward to each day. Good luck with that!
ReplyDeleteI said this about DOGE when Musk began firing thousands of federal workers. I said at the time attrition would have been the more humane approach if you really feel there are too many government workers. Too slow for Musk.
DeleteNaturally, Bernie Sanders prefers the Nordic Model -

And plenty of salmon.
ReplyDeleteSeems to work for them - all in top ten in World Standard of Living Index. US ranks 12th. Worked for a guy like Trump back in the day.
ReplyDeleteThey finally paraded him out of the place in handcuffs. Good old days.
What's this I hear about Homan? A $50,000 bribe, undercover FBI agents. Alleged.
ReplyDeleteTrump and RFKJr suspect Tylenol of causing autism. Gotta keep Homan out of my medicine cabinet. I'd prescribe a fifth of CB every day before work for Trump.
ReplyDeleteI honestly never heard of this Tylenol theory all my life. Been on conspiracy boards and no one's ever talked about it. If you take too much it affects your liver that's all we know. Why not Twinkies cause autism?
ReplyDeleteI always wash it down with brandy. No liver problems though
DeleteMaybe Trump has stock in Advil. Dunno.
