An aside about the Better Business Bureau

Might be of limited interest to readers with all the big things happening but I have kind of formed an opinion now of the Better Business Bureau.  This blog has toggled back and forth between basically All Things Trump and my bad online shopping experience with SHEIN.  The finer details are in previous posts.  Filed a complaint with the BBB and this thing went back and forth for a few weeks.  SHEIN places almost the whole burden on the consumer to in effect basically somehow proving your lost parcels went to the wrong address.  Lost about $500 to them which they won't refund.  The BBB concluded the matter today informing me that they feel SHEIN acted in good faith and addressed my concerns.  There were no real offers from SHEIN or compromises even so the BBB couldn't even get me a half result.

My newer view now of the Better Business Bureau is they are probably fine for informational purposes only but lacking any real enforcement powers they shouldn't be in the mediation business at all.  In my modest view they're an overrated organization.  My sister made the point Trump should go after online retailers like SHEIN and stuff like that and I agreed Trump would be better if he did just a few minor useful things for most people rather than the stupid epic things he's doing now so tangent back into politics if you wish.

Things are not normal in the Trump Era.  The quality of our institutions are not what they used to be.  The Better Business Bureau.  Pretty much a paper tiger.  It's like the bad retailers don't even fear them anymore.  Shop at home.  Go local;)

  1. You hit the nail on the head -
"Throughout its existence, the CFPB has been persistently targeted by Republican politicians and the financial industry. The CFPB's status as an independent agency has been subject to many challenges in court. In June 2020, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the president can remove the director without cause but allowed the agency to remain in operation. In 2024, the Supreme Court affirmed the constitutionality of the CFPB funding mechanism prescribed by Congress At the outset of his second presidential term, Donald Trump appointed an acting director who immediately ordered the CFPB to stop regulatory activity, and sought to fire 90% of the agency's staff." One political party considers consumers an enemy, but our friends in La La Land know its Biden's fault. One time some years back I had problems which the company handled. Happy, I wrote a note to the president of the company noting that a satisfied customer who spreads the word is the best advertisement and is free. He wrote back and had sent copies around to the staff.
Yours sounds like a case for Elisabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, cuz Bondi is busy persecuting the Mayor of Mpls. So there.

  2. THANK YOU for all that research. You saved me time as usual.

Trump said at Kirk's memorial service he hates his political opponents. Just recently he called Elizabeth Warren for advice on the economy. Funny.

  3. You are not alone - there's thousands of SHIEN complaints on the i-net. Maybe you need to be fluent in Chinese. A lot of companies have at home workers and I have had luck by chatting them up - "is that your baby crying, I can wait" "you don't sound like a Texan" and "still raining there?" Seems to work. I think they get so many hate and crying calls that they like some attention or something.

    1. For all the bad experiences by former Shein customers it still seems enormously popular though. They probably crunched some numbers and found for every one customer they piss they get ten new ones so they don't seem to be bothered all that much by the negative reviewers. In their book winning.

  5. Over at Shaw's, we note your blog presence is amplified. Dave M, who we both like , mentioned Patton as a type personality. As a war history dude, I felt compelled to post -

Patton - highly and wrongly admired - his aides polished his brass and shoes while he court-marshalled draftees in muddy foxholes for not wearing neck ties. Failed his first year at West Point and spent 5 years in the 4 year program. The joke there is that his statue with binoculars points toward the library, a building he could never find. Like some other famous people, he was his own worst enemy.

  6. Thinking maybe ICE recruits should spend a week at St. Judes. If they come out still hating humanity, they are keepers.
