Lost count of the number of times I read on my phone a federal judge has just ruled that Trump can't do this or that. The King has been stripped of a lot of his power. His is a hollow scepter. At this point he probably couldn't name a new plant or animal or planet after himself. At Mt. St. Michael Academy in the Bronx we learned in history class we're supposed to have three co-equal branches of the government. Don't know what that means anymore. Judges seem to have the final say in everything these days. Proof of citizenship to vote doesn't seem to me to be all that radical. At least give him a crumb or two.
Dustup recently between Shaw and GeeeZ about Obama. Entertaining read. MEOW!!! My friend still talks a lot about Obama. When was the last time he was president? On the positive side as far as presidencies go his was scandal free. No talk about semen on a dress or cigars. One mild criticism of mine is that Obama all too often comes across as pedantic. All pedants are Smarter Than Thou. Bruh we hear you no need to lecture. The other thing is the solemn burial at sea of one Osama bin Laden. What the actual f#&k was that?!? but I never hated Obama. He always looked like if he wasn't president he'd have been an underwear model smiling back at you from a package of Hanes. I drive the middle road between worship and hatred these days. Too much on my plate.
Property tax season rolling around in the big YO. Gotta cut back on my high living. Few more years I'll be able to file for an exemption due to my age. The word exemption is misleading here as it's simply a reduction. You'll still be paying until your casket is lowered into the ground.
Have a good day;)
Let me start Z-man... Three Co-equal branches. So where does SCOTUS fit in, especially as it regards POTUS Trump. Their rulings are essentially saying this... Trump can enact his agenda, but he still must follow the law. As such, we, as the SCOTUS, will block that agenda when it conflicts with the Constitution. Of which they are, by law, the final arbiter.
ReplyDeleteI see it like this... they're not ruling against him as much as they are ruling in favor of the Constitution.
Now on Voter ID, most Americans want people to show ID to vote. I personally have not seen ANY evidence yet that we have a voter fraud problem sufficient to change an election. But whatever.
If the Feds want to impose on the states an ID to Vote Law, they've got some work to do. The Constitution gives states the power to run their elections. So there's that. But let's say we get past that. For me, and I think most of my really lefty friends will agree, we'll say fine. But... we need a free, Universal Federal Voter ID Card that is accepted in all states as official ID.
Then, if someone goes to vote in Kansas, it works. If Johnny moves to Illinois to go to school, he can vote there.
But neither the current prez, or the GOP want that. Because, I do not believe fixing the non existent problem is the real issue. The real issue for them is limiting access to the polls for some people, be they students, travelers, or others. So a universal card, good everywhere, makes it pretty hard to exclude people. Which conservatives before as Democrats and now as Republicans are pretty good at.
I was born when FDR was president. Lot of people still hate him. Seems some people got to have someone or something to hate.
ReplyDeleteIs it part of their religion? Been kicked off Geeze several times and her squad said some very unkind things about my intelligence and I sure am no commie scum. If I were deported, I would prefer Canada - they speak English and seem sane.
Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining Trump is being reigned in a bit but my political philosophy is a bit more complicated. Seems to me a president should have some power to do things even if it's not wise. Take the tariffs for example. Never knew the SCOTUS gets to set trade policy. So they voted against the tariffs in large part even though in my view that power properly belongs to the executive branch even if it's not good for the economy. With the voter ID I'm just getting the impression some judges are voting against Trump just to go against him. Not a fan of Trump anymore but again no one branch of the government is supposed to be the most powerful and that includes the Judiciary,
ReplyDeleteIMHO.
Don't know though. Just recently had my driver's license upgraded to federal purpose. Might that count for something here?
ReplyDeleteWell it would in New York. But here's the deal. You got upgraded. That's great. But many states do not yet have that upgrade you got in their systems. Red states and blue states.
DeleteSo the driver licenses many have in those states, unlike your new upgrades license, would not be valid ID for them to legally vote.
Why wouldn't we work all this out and take the time to get the law right and make sure the system is secured without disenfranchising legal voters?
That's what I mean when I say Trump ad the GOP are not really interested in solving the non existent problem of voter fraud. They just want an issue. Or they really do want to disenfranchise people.
Also doesn't make sense Trump wants to ban the mail-ins. I voted for him that way. It's good for older folk who have trouble walking and might not be able to make it to the Polish Community Center.
DeleteThe Yonkers Property Tax. Generally speaking most Yonkers homeowners probably owe large sums. For me the obligation is 3 installments of about $1,400 not including the earlier County tax I owed which was about $750. All told that's still way more than I owe in federal and state income tax together! What is striking to me is when you get the thing in the mail there are no payment options just this is what you owe. Even ConEd my energy contractor encourages payment options. My house was built in 1920 and the Assessor still treats it like a mansion.
ReplyDeleteRE your constant banning at the GeeeZ place I would think allowing spirited disagreement makes for a more lively site. Occasional pyrotechnics and not just the choir. WordPress has the explicit option of simply banning people and Google Bloggrr doesn't for some reason. Probably too tempting for some people.
ReplyDeleteSpirited disagreement? Nope. Do you remember Ducky? He was pretty snarky. Then there was a guy, LiberalMan. He was pretty in your face. But BB? He just has a different opinion. As long as he was praising the Armenian ppl or sharing jokes, he was tolerated. But once he commented on any politics, he was banned.
DeleteI've never used swear words in my disagreeing with the folks at Geeez when they were on Blogger. But disagreement and asking people to face the fact that Trump lies and they used to say Obama lying showed he was unqualified to be president, got me banned. When opinion was stated as fact and I asked for evidence, or pointed out factual errors, I was chided for focusing on factual details when the gist of what they wrote was "mostly" correct. Once, in a discussion about voting fraud in Ohio, the team at the site claimed fraud there was everywhere because more people voted than were registered. I showed the GOP Sec of State detail, the numbers and the evidence that this was untrue.
And that was it. I was banned for being nasty to people.
Maybe it was because I called the people there racially insensitive, not racist mind you, when they used terms like "Magic Negro", "Halfrican", "Mooch" and "Mike" to describe the Obamas.
They have no desire for a spirited discussion. They're right, they have "their" truth, they don't believe people like BB and me are real Americans, love our country or even deserve to be here. They believe we want to destroy our country, hate God, our flag and patriotism.
Geeez...
My issue with that place is they're hard-core MAGA. I was supportive of Trump and voted for him and defended him up to a certain point on my blog but I was never real MAGA. Once Trump started making noises about Greenland I unhooked my wagon. Also Obama deported far more people than Trump but without the street theater. My issue with the commenters over there is they can't seem to call Trump out at least once in a while although Z doesn't like his use of crude language.
DeleteHere's a thought... a different way to look at things.
ReplyDeleteWe're in the middle of the World Cup. The entire world is trying to get into America to see their team. People all across the country are hanging out with citizens of other countries here to root for their team.
Demographics and data tell us soccer fans lean left. They are not hard core conservatives. Hard core conservatives tend to follow American football. Yet when the US plays, what are we seeing in the stadiums?
Massive unbridled joy and patriotism!
Americans, left leaning Americans are painted, decked out in and sporting red, white and blue, flags. Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty are outfits everywhere.
They're singing the National Anthem and even Country Roads by John Denver at the top of their lungs. When the other country even tries to cheer for their team, they are drowned out by chants of "USA, USA, USA."
All that sounds like a lot of patriotism to me.
But we're all a bunch of hippy, pinko, commie, America haters.
Maybe you can explain it to me...
That's the Hannity broad brush at work. Hannity has a swelled head. Literally it seems.
DeleteWonder if Hannity will ever take the Tucker Carlson -MTG escape route?
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking that Trump had a hard time finding friends will growing up.
Or will he prefer to go down with the ship? The Titanic at least had an orchestra.
DeleteGus our large tabby. Few days back came home with a bad wound on his left side. Despite my ministrations it wouldn't heal so my sister and I took him to the pet ER yesterday. Over $200 just for walking in the door. Stitches/minor surgery. Over $1,300 at the end. Said to the receptionist this is like a property tax bill. The DOGE check would've helped.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Gus is grateful. Did he tangle with and Eastern Coyote?
ReplyDeleteYa gotta take out a bank loan before you go to the vet ER these days. Maybe a large rat?
