The GOP Health Crisis

Republican Senator from SC Lindsey Graham dead at 71 after a sudden and brief illness according to reports.  Is 84-year old Republican Senator from KY Mitch McConnell dying?  More mystery than answers.  The 80-year old POTUS Donald Trump's brain rotting from the inside out unless you're a fan.  Ancient folk still working.  Also Iran has vowed to assassinate Trump.  He couldn't just bomb Iran he had to take out their Supreme Leader.  How many assassination attempts can Trump survive?  After a while the odds turn against you.  This is the real world not a John Wick franchise.

WTF are we doing?

  1. Is the presence of cyclosporiasis in NY affecting the restaurant business? Ex[;plosive diarrhrea - good for people pm a diet? A prez may have the disease in the mouth.

  2. You couldn't say that over at that other place.

Yes I was reading some restaurants have tweaked their menu because of the parasite. Diarrhea. More than passingly familiar with the subject. You kind of don't tell the doc otherwise they'll be sending tubes through both ends. The explosive kind though. Does it wind up on the ceiling?

  4. Susan Collins, 73. Chuck Schumer 75. Angus King, 81. Jim Risch, 82. Mitch McConnell, 83 if he's still alive. Bernie Sanders, 84. And the king of the Senate and third in line to become president, Charles Grassley, 92.

I'm telling you, we will never get term limits. But I bet we could get an amendment that puts an upper age on all federally elected politicians. Something like no one can run for federal office if on election day they will be 70 years old or older.

That would mean our oldest president could be 74, A congressman 72 and a senator 76. Sounds reasonable to be, which is probably why it will never happen.

    1. Holy God in Heaven Dave I knew we had some oldsters in the Congress but Grassley is how old? It's not like they can't afford to retire.

  5. And it's just as bad in the House.

Here are the five oldest Dems currently in the House... Maxine Waters, 86. Steny Hoyer, 85. James Clyburn, 84. Nancy Pelosi 84. Danny K. Davis, 83

And the five oldest GOP members, a little younger... Hal Rogers, 87. John Carter, 83. Virginia Foxx, 81. Jim Baird, 79. Joe Wilson, 77.

  6. I knew Maxine Waters was up there. It's as if they feel they're too important to retire. Would rather die in office.

Now I'm guessing why this may not be more of an issue. I think it's become politically taboo to even discuss it. Many people would probably call us anti-elderly. With so many old ones in there how would another member of Congress even bring this up? It's almost like you're going against the AARP. So they age in office and die in office. The new normal.

  7. That's why I like the upper age limit. We just grandfather [no pun intended] in the old farts and I think America would accept it. Because it's their/our reality. At some point we ARE to old to be effective in our jobs.

  8. What I like about you Dave is you are willing to occasionally take a position sure to piss off both sides. Pragmatic liberalism. I watched Pelosi age before our eyes but never pondered the extent of it all. My late Dad drove a truck for almost 50 years. He wanted to keep going but then the boss said today's your last day and he got some nice parting gifts.

    1. Gracias Z-man... I'm a zealot, but a zealot for goodness. Over the years I've voted and even worked for politicians of both major parties. I know for a fact no one party, nor candidate has a corner of the market on goodness and/or good ideas and policies.

So yeah, I'll beat on both sides, no matter who it is.

BY the way, my dad also drove a truck. After years in the gas station business, he got out of that in the mid 1960s and was hired on with the LA Times, where he drove for 25 years.

  10. You remind me of my late aunt. Very conservative. Her son-in-law the complete opposite very liberal. Used to argue all the time. She came down with a cancer. A sarcoma. Even in her last days they were still going at it. Is the will in order? Couldn't give a rat's ass.

  11. Ever think of not going to the doctor? Not funding their next trip to Europe? Not saying it's not important. Work with a couple of people always seem to have some kind of medical appointments. Working with them they seem OK though. My sister thinks they just want a day off here and there.
