Theory floating out there backed up by some Frank Luntz polling data. Trump pissed off voters who voted for him in 2024 and so they flipped to the Democrats. The Iran War, affordability, health care, housing, gas, groceries, tariffs, Epstein, Israel First etc. In a nut Trump betrayed MAGA and MAGA got back. Basically some of the data strongly suggests this was a massive collective vote against Trump and not people suddenly liking abortion more or socialism more or woke more or anything else leftist more. This was politically existential, taking it to the next level. MAGA no longer supports Trump. Only the splinter offshoot Trump cultists do.
That is the theory. Hmmm......
So the time wasn't the only thing that Fell Back?
ReplyDeleteNot exactly new. Had a really conservative neighbor once and the popular incumbent guy in Westchester County that they originally voted for began doing things not so conservative. This was back in the day but long story short so he and some other conservatives deliberately voted for the Democrat to punish him. Happens.
ReplyDeleteWhat happened in the midterms was off the charts.
MAGA:
ReplyDelete"Oh, you're welcome."
So... in Nevada, we voted, for the second time because that's the law, to make abortion a Constitutional right in the state, up to the point of fetal viability.
ReplyDeleteNow it's enshrined in law. So clearly abortion was important for at least Nevadans.
Trump does not care a whit about any party. Except the party of Trump.
Everyone knew this but one group of ppl never realized they were being used for his purposes. He sat down one day and thought about what he could do to become president, because it would make him powerful and even richer.
The GOP and their rabid need for self validation were his dupes. He wrapped in his BS love for America and the flag and he was off to the races.
So here we are. What will the future look like?
Sarah Longwell of the Bulwark is a Focus Group guru. Leaning conservative, everyday she sits with people and tries to understand their politics. Here's what she is hearing from what are now former Trump voters. Not the MAGA sailor crowd, but people like maybe you Z-man.
She's hearing they all need to go. They want to vote GOP. Because they are conservatives. But they will not do so for as long as it takes to get all the Trump supporting ppl out of government.
Because they have found them to be clowns, unserious, liars and incompetent.
The one Trump has done well, besides closing the borders, is make money. America is not happy about that. That's for sure.
I think maybe we have caricatured MAGA. As long as someone addresses their issues maybe they switch parties and also to punish Trump and the GOP. Why not? If the Dems are seen to be better on affordability and housing and other MAGA issues it makes sense. So I think I'm gonna go with the theory for now all those disaffected MAGA folk were behind the blue tsunami...except the sailor crowd as you say.
DeleteDon't discuss abortion here much anymore as folks' minds are made up. Viability changes. An artificial womb would push that to Zero. Let's say 6 months is the cutoff point so 2 or 3 days before that it ain't human? Is it like a Cinderella moment at the stroke of midnight? At any rate people usually do vote in favor of pro-abortion referenda it seems. Maybe they mobilize better. Most folk maybe stay home. Don't know what it all means.
ReplyDeleteAn alternative to idaho's extremely strict abortion law failed. So here the Catholic and Mormon crowd hung on...and women continue to be forced to carry dead fetuses to birth, birth infants with no limbs and along with all our baby doctors go out of state....where Idaho cops go after them. Odd situation, but will go on forever. Remember when I explained a couple HS girls in town blew their brains out when their folks would not OK an abortion (and Beth up in Cleveland ripped into me and quit) I guess as the old saying goes 'Those who feel think life is a tragedy, to those who think it is a comedy. Probably why Idaho voted all GOP, even ousting a 24 year county clerk, who coached Jr. High basketball on the side and was much liked for her honesty and willingness to meet and talk with anyone. Now we got a Sasquatch
ReplyDelete(Idaho gorilla) down at the courthhouse.
You always focus on the fringe extreme cases BB. I'm sure you could dredge up some case where a woman was gang-raped and forced to carry triplets and jumped off a bridge.
ReplyDeleteBut the way I see it and that was a kind of egocentric take on you and B but anyway in law and jurisprudence we normally don't say choice trumps life so it would seem incumbent on the choicers to prove the fetus isn't human before viability (bovine perhaps?). Dave is a Rev. but it would be difficult for me to think God a Creator would be in favor of abortion or feticide which is not to say He would automatically send people to Hell over it. Theology and politics don't mix just a digression of mine. You've always been in favor or an apologist for abortion but hey that's what a blog is a about.
