The ascendancy of the weird Right - it now IS the Right

The latest examples being "Alligator Alcatraz" and those racist conservatives who want to deport NYC Mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.  My friend has imbibed deeply of the Fox News propaganda.  For him Iran was on the verge, the very cusp of developing an intercontinental ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead to hit NYC.  For Mark Levin if you opposed Trump bombing Iran's nuclear facilities you're an unpatriotic American.  Levin gives off this vague creepy psycho vibe and said to MTG after their recent dust-up "you're on my radar."  Hmmmmm......Hannity is somewhat milder but his aging blockhead fills the screen as he constantly beats the drums for war in the Middle East or at least a bomb here and there.  The Senate now seems okay with Trump's giant sausage of a bill thus mortgaging our future and our children's future.  Musk continues to attack the bill and he is right for once.  At this rate the midterms may turn out to be a big blue tsunami.  The rise of Mamdani represents a left-wing populism not to be ignored.

It's all very depressing but this too shall pass.  Hopefully next time we'll get somebody better.

  1. RE: " we'll get somebody better" should be a piece of cake, no?

  3. So they're attacking Mamdani. Communist socialist but he focuses on struggling New Yorkers. He has a primarily economic message whereas Trump won't even address the cost-of-living. Might have something to do with it.

  4. So Z-man... I see you, mostly like me. Semi normal as politics go. Not far right, not far left. I get your frustration with Trump. And I applaud your headline about the weird right.

I'm not expecting you to one day wake up and favor the fever dreams of the left, but i do have a question...

What are you seeing now, that you missed, ignored or could not imagine before the elections?

Hannity was the same then as now. Levine has always been a crank. MTG was focused on "Jewish Space Lasers" and the great majority of Trump voters have been virulently anti all immigration since Pat Buchanan gained prominence.

And all this was out in the open.

    So what tipped your scales?

    1. I remember Pat Buchanan very well. Thing is immigration was always an issue with the Right but nobody on the Right I can recall ever talked about the largest mass deportations in history. In politics they talk a lot about this and that but it kind of stays on that level. For example defunding PBS is such an old issue with the Right but nothing was ever really done about it like maybe let's put it on the back burner for now the penguin documentaries are worth it. I read a book by Buchanan once and he's more coherent than Trump even if you disagree. Trump however has taken some real legitimate issues and taken them to even bizarre levels. Why does an immigrant detention center have to be something out of Shawshank Redemption? Also about MTG I believe when someone even like her says something spot on like when she said Fox brainwashed people I will give her points and credit despite the other stuff.

    2. Btw I was never a fan of Hannity ever since the Iraq War. He used to shout down people who disagreed with him when he had his radio show on WABC. As for "the fever dreams of the Left" Mamdani is filling a vacuum since Trump and the Repubs are no longer talking about struggling Americans and the cost-of-living. Mamdani is not my kind of candidate but it's not hard to figure out his appeal.

  6. Practicing his natalism? What I find interesting about MAGA is that when Musk was at DOGE MAGA loved both Trump and Musk but when Musk parted company over the big beautiful bill most of MAGA went with Trump even though Musk made more sense. Cult.

  7. Btw where did Pat Buchanan go? Dave had me brushing up on my Buchanan just now. 86 and keeping a low profile. Googling and some sites said Trump is the incarnation of Buchanan or something. That's kind of out the window though with Trump bombing Iran. His immigration views that's like academic talk and he doesn't speak for all conservatives. Kind of a trip down memory lane.

  8. What I'm seeing now and it's a turnoff so you have this growing rift now among some conservatives that Trump and his actions suck you could say and this kind of gloating and even anger on the paet of the Left that we told you so and why did you vote for the guy? More to say on this......
