American Idol - Season 10

I liked it, it worked. The new team of Randy Jackson, J-Lo and Aerosmith's Steven Tyler proves that a show doesn't have to be cruel to be interesting. Not having Simon is like getting out from under the yoke of a bad boss and the proceedings were much more pleasant this time around. Got the impression they let a few more go through to Hollywood than were warranted and imo a few were let through because of their compelling personal stories alone which kind of made up for their less than special renditions but whatever (you gonna say no to the guy whose Dad just survived throat cancer or the young Kosovar girl?). That 17-yr. old from somewhere in Jersey had me fooled, didn't look the part but crooned his heart out like Frank Sinatra. Benson somebody and I think the judges agreed he was the best so far, look for him to go a long way in this competition. That overemotional chick who works in a shopping mall who they had pegged only for Broadway they let through after she begged and pleaded, a decent enough voice but she definitely needs to reign it in. There was the 16 yr. old girl chock full of Personality and a good voice for her young age who said "yo yo dawg" to Randy and overall I enjoyed the evening. I'm sure you're gonna get your tv critics to nitpick the thing (Linda Stasi) but I have to say it was a'ight:)

  1. I saw it and I disagree with you. I thought it was incredibly disappointing.
I thought that Steven Tyler was way over the top, he acted as if this was about him . What was with that singing along and drumming on the desk?
Steven Tyler is not the New Simon Cowell, he will never be as good as he was, he can't replace him and he can't equal him.
As for J-Lo is she going to be afraid to say "No"? She was quoted in today's paper as saying,
"I'm not going to crush someone's dream"
Well then why is she a judge?
I think that the show has lost it. And I'd bet that there will be changes made either this year or next or the show is And by the way Randy Jackson wearing a tie? Come on...

  2. Another show on my 'never saw, never will' list.

It just doesn't hold any interest for me. I'm not a fan of pop ephemera.

  3. Sat when there's nothing else on the tube it does it for me. Disagree with Mal. I think Simon's judging was off last season but for most of Idol's run I mostly agreed with his judgements on musical talent but I think his cruelty didn't set a good example. Why not just say someone doesn't have what it takes and leave it at that? As for the judges Ellen had no background in music whatsoever, Tyler and J-Lo do. I don't think Simon was the linchpin of the show anyway, it's the talent.

Even given that Simon was not all he used to be last year, he was far and above better then these 2.
Let us not forget that this is an entertainment show and these 2 are not entertaining.
People watched this show to see what Simon would say.
And besides that, like him or not, his comments were right on the money.
Ellen was one of the worst ever.
Randy is pretty good but he worked off of Simon. You can see that now.

  6. Saty, guess what? If you don't watch it, you don't have to make a comment about it! Who cares if you watch it or not?

I was not able to watch it Wednesday but taped it Thursday and watched it tonight. The judges did seem nicer this year. I noticed Randy got to sit in Simon's usual seat, maybe he has tenure, lol. Some real talent in New Orleans. Not sure where they were on Wed, but I see next week they are in Wisconsin, good to see they are going to new places. Never know what hidden talents are in the heartland.

  7. It just ain't a whole lot of fun anymore, Z. Though maybe that was the goal. Not my goal, but these things happen.

  9. Saty = Drama queen, sheesh! My point was just you don't have to comment on every post you know. Z-man has posted about other shows I don't watch so I refrain from participating in those conversations, that's all!

like that red-headed Jewish kid with the melodious voice. Saty, ok you're not into pop ephemera but you need to take a break from those mystical emanations every now and then. I find when I'm into the Deep Stuff a nice Gilligan's Island rerun will bring me back down to reality. If you're reading the City of God by St. Augustine you have to balance it out with Married with Childen otherwise you go nuts. Just sayin':)

  11. We have the free over the air digital HD teevee thing going and believe it or not even where we are we manage to get 11 channels. One of them is called Retro TV and they have all the old 70's shows (and some 80's). I have never been any kind of a TV fan but I do get a kick out of seeing Adam 12 and Emergency! and so on. (Knight Rider I can do without...) I don't necessarily watch them but if I happen to be walking through the room I get a kick out of it.

I'm just more of a reading type person. What I read depends on my mood, you can guess I'm not the Harlequin Romance type. I love cookbooks (gave away 22 of them and my cookbook-bookcase is still full) and I tend to read lots of things with heart-thumping titles like Invertebrate Palaeontology And Evolution or The Rough Guide To Jazz. Today I've been into Vegan Lunchbox Around The World. Yes, I'm OCD about food.

    Anyway, it's all good.

  13. I didn't know too much about Steven Tyler but because of Idol, I am thinking he is a very sweet person!

  14. I'm digging it although others apparently aren't. Maybe it's all those years of having the toxic Simon on and people made the show all about him instead of the talent.
