At least in the blue states. The Feds kill another American citizen.
At first they got rid of the worst of the worst or so they said. Then they went after the farm and hotel workers, the bricklayers and the chefs. Now they're just targeting American protesters of their operations to send a message. The Trump Administration is like organized crime. If the DOJ is corrupt who will investigate who will prosecute? Will Bondi, Noem, Homan, Trump et al. all wind up in the Hague someday?
Odd way of working for the Nobel Peace Prize. Be easier to just stack the prize board - replace the Scandinavians with ICE men.
ReplyDeleteSo the way I see it is the ICE agents are gonna have plausible deniability built right in when they decide to shoot someone. Guy had a slingshot. Noem will put on extra makeup and say it was justified.

ReplyDeleteI think what has happened to both Good and Pretti could have and should have been prevented. But the "only the best people" Trump Admin has done nothing to ensure the success, both functional and political of the ICE officers.
Further, the tools law enforcement typically relies on, investigations, some level of transparency, etc., are not in play under Trump.
All of that puts a bunch of officers on the streets WITHOUT proper law enforcement and deescalation training.
It could and indeed, was all foreseen by some. Those officers are partly to blame, but the great majority of the blame rests on the higher ups.
What pains me more is how many conservative Americans, unlike you Z-man, who can broach no criticism of Trump, lest they lose their minds, tribe, self respect or something.
That to me, after the loss of life, is the biggest takeaway from all of this.
One exception to that rule is Glenn Greenwald. Thoughtful and doesn't froth at the mouth. He talks about the Pretti case and asks why is the Trump Administration lying so much and they know they are. He takes special aim at Gnome I mean Noem. Calls her a pathological liar who lies with ease.

Issue being no matter what happens as you say the Administration will be there front and center defending the action. No even pro-forma investigation, no review. Not the normal way we handle these things.

ReplyDeleteInteresting that the killing of Pretti has seemed to bother some Republicans more than the killing of Renee Good. I think that has to do with gun rights and the 2nd Amendment especially when the NRA stepped in and made a statement. Trump between a rock and a hard place mincing his words to the WSJ. Doesn't want to lose that part of the base.
