Why we're not an intelligent country

Trending right now at least when I first signed in around 10:30 this morning are:

(1) Gaga boyfriend
(2) Kim Kardashian
(3) Katy Perry and Rus......
---
(5) Rachel Uchitel

I never got this, you go to the library let's say or are at home and have a very valuable chunk of Time and you're looking this stuff up? So what was I trending just now? Old black news anchor Bill McCreary who once hosted a show in NYC called Black News in the '70s on Channel 5 and oh yes I found for Saty a fully employee-owned company at http://www.scottscornermarket.com/ and just the other day I was googling different detox teas and that whole subject and well I'm eclectic but not stupid. Did you know there's such a thing as Radio Frequency Hearing which often gets misdiagnosed as tinnitus? I mean I follow the Gaga stuff just a touch, tangentially like I know she's 25 and doesn't have a boyfriend (Patrick get in there!) but millions of Americans googling these same stupid subjects day in and day out across the fruited plain? amateur experts on pop ephemera and we VOTE!!! Kelly Clarkson just endorsed Ron Paul btw (http://www.gossipcop.com/kelly-clarkson-ron-paul-endorsement-support-president-2012-republican-twitter/). So I'm gonna be gone a little bit and go check out that food market again:)

  1. You made me stop and think about what kinds of things have I been looking at online. I really had to stop and think about it, because it's such a stream of consciousness thing.. thought occurs, look it up, repeat..

So I went into my history and here's what I got. This is what I've been trending.

-Uniroyal Laredo H/T tires. These are the ones I want to get for the truck. Burly.

-Molecular Gastronomy. Read about this on Xavier Onassis' blog and had no idea what it was.

-Vegetarian Indonesian Satay recipe. Looks good. I might need a trip to Li Ming for a different kind of tofu for this.

-10 Rock Star Bios You Shouldn't Bother Reading. This was just a flip through cause I wanted to see if Dave Mustaine's book was on it. It wasn't. I did like the comments about Keith's book.

-"How do you eat tsampa?" Tsampa is roasted barley flour and the main diet item of Tibetans. Seems like it has some creative limitations.

-Researching Zyprexa. I give this medication to a whole lot of people and really only know the basics of it.

-Indepth information on bipolar mixed episodes. Why do I read this stuff? I could be writing it.

-The history of the Toyota HiLux. This is essentially the international version of the Tacoma. It has a rep for being indestructible and on BBC Top Gear they actually attempted to destroy one (3-part youtube series showing how) and couldn't.

-Sabudana vada recipe. Essentially fried tapioca patties or burgers. Good for fasting days.

-Upper Extremity Radiology Studies. I just had an MRI done, waiting to hear results.

    -Free Kindle Ebooks. Of course.

And there goes the train of consciousness, straight off the rails.

  2. I do ALOT of google image searching and the searches ain't always that good, totally irrelevant crap comes up. This morning typed in Bill McCreary - Black News - WNEW like I said and skimpy offerings, more on the hockey player. Wanted to play around with this, maybe form a blog which should be simple......& not one celebrity on your list! Now Padre Pio is like a SuperSaint in the Roman Catholic Church and yet my brother said if you google Padre Pio - Fraud all kinds of interesting stuff comes up like there's proof he went to a pharmacy and got carbolic acid is it? and treated his stigmata wounds so they'd stay fresh and open. Yep one thing leads to another and then it's off to Balducci's.

  3. ......asked my doctor about the Radio Frequency Hearing and he knew right away what it was, said it exists. Went to Scott's before in Pound Ridge, you get off at Rte. 172 from 684 and go in aways after the Bedford Village Green and before long it's like you're entering some kind of pleasant and nostalgic time warp like a cross between Piermont and Bronxville and that's Scotts Corners. Haven't been there in a while but what a market! nice packout section with broccoli stuffed chicken breast, chicken milanese, assorted quiche, scalloped potatoes and other stuff too numerous to remember and their personal kickass salads. Workers look happy too and that's probably because say have a say in things...another interesting place, Golden Village Supermarket, an Asian foodstore on Central Ave. in Hartsdale right next to Mrs. Green's. What do you think of rice shakes btw?

  4. "-Free Kindle Ebooks. Of course."

Kristie and I both got Kindle Fires for Christmas. I went nuts downloading books from Mises.org

  5. Yeah, I think it's really fascinating to go back through the history and see the thought process, watch how point A leads to point B and so on all through what you're putting in the search box....

Rice protein.. I am not a big shake/smoothie fan period. I used to get into the OLD McD shakes (the ones they had to call 'thick' shakes because they had no 'milk' in them. They were made up mostly of kaolin clay-same stuff they use in kaopectate-and sugar and flavor. Always seemed kinda like chocolately quicksand but I crave them sometimes, now you can't get them) and every now and then I will wanna die for a Cookout shake. They have FORTY different flavors and you can mix/match them as you like. In a drivethru!! Anyway when I first had my surgery I was all up into the protein powder shake thing and I have an enormous box of whey protein and you know, I really am just not all that into it. But do I believe in ways for people to replace animal protein intake with vegetarian protein intake? hell yes. So if you're into it, have at it.

Having a say in your job, yeah, that's important for job satisfaction. One thing we used to use a lot was 'self scheduling'. This was a major tactic of mine. Basically you put out a blank schedule and the minimum individual requirements, ie, you have to work at least 2 weekends, at least 2 Fridays, at least 2 Mondays. Then you post the unit requirements, ie, we need 4 nurses every night. Then you let your staff have at it, with the understanding that if they work it out and coverage is OK, I won't change anything. If I find 8 nurses on Wednesday and 1 on Friday, then I move people around as I see fit. This system really works out well. It's very popular with hospital nurses. Gives you a sense of control.

Soap, I checked out the list of books at Mises and yeah I can see where that worked out to be practically a literary orgasm for you. I really love my Kindle, I have got all different kinds of stuff on it now and 95% of it free. I never go anywhere without it! The Fire is really nice, fancy but more than what I needed (not a movie person) so the Touch was the one I had asked for, just with wifi. I can't even explain how much I love this thing. Nothing more amazing since the first time someone put knife to bread.

Oh btw Z glad you got a kick out of that post on my blog about work.. wish I could say I made it up but no, it's all true.

I think one day I'm gonna actually do this, keep track for a day or at least a couple hours every search I make and what was the thought behind it. It'd be an interesting microcosm of my brain.

  6. The kindle books at Amazon are pretty inexpensive too.

I just ordered two books for under $12.

    The Guns of August

    and

Merchants of Death: A Study of the International Armament Industry

    ReplyDelete
  7. And I watched Exit through the Gift Shop on it from the comfort of my bed the other night.

    Great movie by the way.

  8. I don't know how they pick those trending things, is it because a ton of people are all searching it, or is it random selections? I think it's all a ploy to suck people into cyberspace and so they can tell advertisers that people spend a lot of time on Yahoo.

The owners of the company I work for got everyone Kindle Fires for Christmas, I must say I am enjoying it a lot! Downloaded a few library books so far, got a cool app where I can access my computer remotely.

  9. What I'd like to know is when will the Sane Adults of the Republican party rise up and call Ron Paul what he really is? A whacko, racist, anti-smite, conspiracy nut who is just what America DOES-NOT need.
And who's going to hand the election right to Barack Obama if he don't go away.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Hmmm...where have I heard all those talking points Mal? Hmmm....

I'm not going to address the whacko statement because you'd have to elaborate on that first.

As for the racist charge, isn't it something when an individual such as yourself and the rest of the party apparatchiks carry on and on about the frequency with which those on the left play the race card when they are losing an argument only to then invoke the practice themselves? My oh my...desperation has never been an admirable trait.

Ron Paul has delivered over 4,000 babies. He was doing so at the time when the newsletters in question came out. I suppose any rational minded person might stop to ponder how a supposedly racist man would not only deliver babies of another race but also not charge a great many of their parents for medical services?

Further, how is it that a supposed racist speaks out on behalf of the African American community about the injustices done to them through the drug war and the justice system and then goes on to say he'd pardon those of them that were non-violent drug offenders? How is it that a racist would offer to put up $100 of his own money for a gold medal for Rosa Parks?

Anti-Semite? Again, another futile attempt and a sure sign of desperation on the part of you and the apparatchiks.

Ron Paul was the only one who defended Israel's right to strike Iraq's nuclear facility in 1981.

As for the conspiracy nut charge, same thing as the whacko charge. You'd need to clarify specifically what you're talking about.

Lastly, he has polled better against Obama than any other GOP candidate and is the only candidate who offers the clearest difference between Obama on both economic and foreign policy.

Here goes another diverted thread Z...

  11. I am coming around more towards Ron Paul as of late...

  12. Good to hear. Alot of folks are and when they get on board, they aren't inclined to jump ship.

It's a movement; an idea whose time has come and one that can't be stopped by any army or any government.

Was it a free app? What's it called?

  14. Saty, skip the uniroyals and got with the Bridgestone Dueller's.

I've got the A/T 695 on my Grand Cherokee.

The Dueler line has gotten great reviews from Consumer Reports too.

  15. Having been on the Ron Paul bandwagon since 2007, I can tell you first hand that Dondero has zero credibility. He's a disgruntled staffer that was let go for performance issues. He's getting paid to say the things he's saying.

Why don't you get someone with a bit more credibility like say..oh I dunno...hmm...maybe Netanyahu?

Go listen to his speech to congress. Go listen to the Zionists who agree with Ron Paul's foreign policy with respect to Israel and the tenets of Zionism which hold independence and self-reliance as their virtues.

  16. Doesn't matter if he wins or not. Central economic planning is an epic failure and is unraveling before your very eyes. Hope you're ready for the ride.

  17. Soap,

I've got Uniroyals now and I'm sticking with them. We were trying to figure out how many miles they have on them now; I couldn't find the receipt but we're figuring somewhere around 60K and they've got some good life left in them yet.

I'm just going for more burly Uniroyals. Lately this is like my thing with the truck, the whole burly look. I keep thinking about putting a lift on it but it's so expensive. Then it'd be a Taco Grande.

Meanwhile I'm settling for Taco Caliente.

    :)

  18. apparatchiks

Just wanted to say this is another one of those words I love.

  19. IMO, most tire brands are OK. There was a huge Uniroyal plant
where I grew up, so the locals
preferred those. In college I bought used tires at the junk yards (with predictible results).
Been going with Cooper the last dozen years, primarily because of the good local service (free rotation, free replacement of flats
any where within 20 miles and especially when I go in and wonder about tread depth, they are honest
and say 'aw ya got anudder 15K')
I'm leery of the 60K life tires-
very hard rubber, poor on ice and
    long stopping range. Don't drive
much anymore, but tire quality has
    improved immensely from the 50s
when you had a flat about oh, every
    hundred miles or so....

    ReplyDelete
  20. I couldn't tell you what the tires I have now are rated for in terms of life, but our best guess is that we're at about 60K on them.

Things like road noise and a rough ride don't bother me much-I'm not a creature comforts type person when it comes to vehicles so that makes some decisions easier.

If I was gonna get all hysterical, these tires I'm gonna get are stud-able, but that'd be pretty hysterical indeed for NC.

I do want something nubbly though. We don't get a lot of snow here, but when we do, they do a lot of nothing (literally) to the roads, so you're driving in ice ruts and so on for sometimes days on end. 90% of my daily commute (30 mi each way) is on roads that couldn't even be classed as 'secondary' so they are a real frickin mess.

I'm gonna put some lights on the burly bar in the front and then get a TACO CALIENTE plate made for the front (you only get rear ones in NC). It's the best I can do on a budget.

  21. Hi Z-man, Happy New Year! One of these years, I expect we'll see a posting from you on a day that the library is closed because you are gonna get yourself a home computer.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Z, you should get a kindle fire. Bloc from that.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Kindle is the greatest thing since the first time someone put the knife to the bread.

    No shit.

    ReplyDelete
  24. A Kindle Fire would be a cheaper alternative to a laptop or desktop, you should consider it, Z-man. However, you would still need to get your house set up for WiFi if you want to get online at home.

    ReplyDelete
  25. You wouldn't necessarily have to set up your pad with wi-fi. There are enough coffee shops and the like around town I'm sure. You might even get lucky enough to access one without even leaving your place.

It'd be a compromise too given that there is no keyboard. Another inexpensive option might be a netbook. You can get one of those for around $200 as well.

  26. Never had luck with the Dunlop tires. Bought a new car few years ago, Honda Civic and the car came with them and had to go to Sears not that long after since I do alot of driving and got four new tires not Dunlop. Yeah soap and Beth you're right about computers. ALL my libraries were closed not only on Sunday and Monday (New Year's Day and the Monday 'cause it fell on a Sunday this year) but they were closed ALL day on the Saturday before as well which kinda surprised me, would've expected a 10-1 or 3:00 closing time. Civil Service, you folks got enough days off???

  27. Buy your own computer Z. We'll love you for it.
