Shazam it & get pulled over

I absolutely love the Shazam app because so many times I'll hear a song on the radio and don't know the group or artist.  Only thing is it's an issue when you're driving.  Reverse phone lookup - I don't like it if I accidentally call another person's cell and they can find out everything about me.  Creepy.  Police tips apps by Citizen Observer - chances are your town or city has one.  I've used the YPD tips one and you get a fair response.  Google + I avoid like the plague.  It's all public and out there if you rate an app let's say so you might wanna delete that sex book from your library first.  I actually see men in the stall gabbing away on their phones and if there's ever a hepatitis outbreak you'll know why:)

    1. [b]Titanium Backup[\b] is a root app which allows you to backup all of your apps and restore them or freeze them from operating. It is THE app to have if you've ever upgraded your phone/tablet and want to get all of your apps transferred to the new device.

[b]Memrise[\b] is a language learning app. I've been using it to expand on my Latin and Esperanto studies.

[b]Macrodroid[\b] allows you to create macros to facilitate certain processes. Say for example you want your phone to automatically power down when the battery gets to 10% or something. It is very intuitive.

[b]DS Battery Saver[\b] puts your device into deep sleep mode (turns off data/syncing/WiFi) when the screen goes off. Depending on how you set up the profile will only turn on every hour or every 2 hours for a couple of minutes to sync. You can also select slumberer mode which does not sync until you turn the screen on. I use slumberer and can easily go 15-16 hours (sometimes more) on a full charge.

[b]Orbot/Orfox[\b] Orbot is the mobile Tor Onion router. When installed and then installing Orfox (and adding certain add-ons) you can browse the internet relatively anonymously as well as destroy cookies and disable other tracking means. This means that if you do a search for Cole Haan shoes or something you won't be bombarded with constant ads on subsequent webpages that you visit. When I open up Google through Orfox, 90% of the time it displays Google for a different country (Google still says Google but the other text on the homepage might be Romanian, French, German, etc.) this is because my IP address is being routed elsewhere. Theoretically Google doesn't know where I am.

[b]ChatSecure[\b] is a text message app that routes through Orbot allowing for secure encrypted texting. Necessary? Perhaps not but I like to keep some conversations strictly between myself and the other person I'm talking to.

[b]iPieta[\b] it's a Catholic app. It has Catechism studies and a flurry of other prayers and such (Latin and English) as well as add-ons for Summa Theologica and various other encyclicals from just about every Pope.

  4. Security apps, I always have the feeling they don't catch everything. Every scan I've done always comes back 0 viruses and yet there's times the phone acts funny. How are you with security?

    1. Can you elaborate on "acting funny"? Most of the glitches can be resolved by clearing the cache. Custom kernels also can alleviate many hiccups. The kernel is the piece that communicates software and hardware. Custom kernels allow for changing cpu usage and read/write tasks so you can get better performance and/or battery preservation.

    3. It's both the phone and the tablet but mostly the tablet. With the phone I've had a CleanMaster app with no problem for awhile and always now it has this message that pops up "CM has crashed and send the following info for debugging." Suspicious at first but then I did and got a google message in my gmail only thing is it has happened repeatedly after that so I'm thinking virus or other malware. I went to uninstall and reinstall the same app and it happened over and over. That's the main thing.

    4. The tablet was strange for a while. Went to the library one day and couldn't charge it in any of the outlets so went home and for literally a few days it said to "plug in your charger" and the thing would not charge for days on end and even now it charges real slow. I figure maybe the USB port was dirty so cleaned that and made sure all the connections were extra tight. Tried another charger just for the heck of it and same deal. It's a Samsung Galaxy tab so it should be a good deal.

    5. What I'd suggest is to go to Settings>Applications>Application Manager and then find that app in the list.

Once you find it you should clear the cache. That might help.

If not there are a flurry of other apps that can perform the same function (AVG, 360 Security). You could always go with one of those instead.

  6. It's actually pretty tough to get a virus on an android phone. I regularly scan the device plus I also use AdAway (another app I forgot to mention) as well as half a dozen add-ons in Orfox so my susceptibility is quite low.

Is my other comment in your spam filter? I gave descriptions for the apps that I posted.
