Saw an old video of Hillary talking about the problem of illegal immigration. Deport the illegal criminal ones she said and the rest who are hard-working should have to pay a big fine and back taxes and LEARN ENGLISH to eventually become citizens. Protect our borders and learn the language? She out-Trumped Trump. Give her a MAGA hat. These were the Democratic talking points back in the day.
There really is not going to be any massive detention facilities for the illegals waiting to be deported. How long would they take to build? Are they going to sprout up like McDonald's and dot the landscape? "Mommy what's that?" Are the Ancient Aliens gonna come back and spring them up out of the ground like the pyramids? Then the immigration courts are gonna be clogged up for years and you'll be spending $40 for a head of lettuce. Ain't gonna happen.
And a happy TDS to you:)
I agree. Found the data from 1990-2024 and stats were much lower.
ReplyDelete(Unfortunately Statista blanked my screen and wanted me to pay)
The fact checkers agree with you as well - for what it's worth, your view of factcheckers and my cynicism. Back in the day, Reagan granted citizenship to 3 million. A lot of them currently have expired green cards, many are employed and the social and economic effect
is considerable. TDS is the Tour de Suisse big race, right? Trump
calls for 15-20 million, but we know that is trumptalk, right? So lets
agree to agree. :)
Part of TDS is not being able to differentiate between rhetoric and reality. Think Whoopi Goldberg.
ReplyDeleteRhetoric - "Rhetoric is the art of persuasion. It is one of the three ancient arts of discourse along with grammar and logic/dialectic.: I guess we still have one of the ancient arts.
DeleteGrammar and Logic not so much. Interesting, only three ancient arts and now we have hundreds of modern arts, all the way up to AI.
Maybe not part of the official definition but I would add the skillful use of exaggeration which most people probably think of when they think of rhetoric.
DeleteCould be. I don't often think of rhetoric. Would what we think of propaganda fall under it?
DeleteThe more I read Geeez my impression is I don't think she's hard right. She has almost as many criticisms of Trump as Shaw. She doesn't like Trump using the phrase "mass deportations." Neither do I. Truth be told though many conservatives DO support yanking the illegal Spanish grandma out of her kitchen and sending her back home.
DeleteThe old bull in the china shop idiom - you broke it, you bought it?
DeleteSign in the liquor store. You break it you buy it. I don't go there anymore.
DeleteProbably why some of the stuff comes in plastic now?
DeleteI notice that.
DeleteTo me granting citizenship makes economic sense. Americans not having that many babies. Immigration = population growth = more taxpayers. Besides I don't wanna pay $40 for a head of lettuce.
ReplyDeleteWe would have to go on a salad strike.
ReplyDeleteMass deportations and tariffs. Makes Kamala Harris look like a pussycat. So she likes the wine a little.
ReplyDeleteTrump is a tee total guy, never drinks. I would think a jigger of CB once in awhile would mellow him out.
ReplyDeleteSeriously. He's always combative. He hasn't even been inaugurated yet and he's ready to fight. My sister gave up smoking and drinking years ago now she's the OCD type. Nurse Nancy at work same deal and hard to work with. Seriously vodka, rum tonics anything. Gin 'n' juice. Go for it. I find pipe smoking relaxes me. Get a habit going.
ReplyDeleteHe's approaching 80 and got more energy than I EVER had. Sumpin's gotta give, right?
ReplyDeleteSame here. Can't even stay awake for the 10 o'clock news.
ReplyDeleteA lifetime habit, I'm usually asleep by 8:30 PM and up and around between 4-5 AM. Someone has to wake up the birds.
DeleteI go to bed fairly late but wake up fairly early and I'm not even a clubber.
DeleteDoes Trump even sleep?
DeleteHe seems restless. Keeps adding to his to-do list for Day One when he has four years.
DeleteWhat are the odds of Mara Lago becoming the new US Captital?
ReplyDeleteWhen I was Trump's age, I stumbled going down the basement stairs.
ReplyDeleteHe came beaming with the Mrs. down a fancy escalator. Some people age. Some don't.
I'm halfway there. Probably wind up in a nursing home.
ReplyDeleteHello, I'm in charge here at Happy Hollow Haven for the Elderly,
Deletemy name is Nurse Nancy. That cat under you pillow will have to go. You look familiar - a lot older, but familiar.
