Sarah Palin Week & other thoughts you hear seldom expressed (if at all)

Yeah Sarah Palin Week is coming up. I know if you're a lib you're supposed to hate her and if you're a conservative you're supposed to love her but mine is a non-position just like I'm not for or against Dancing with the Stars because I don't watch it. I'm not into Sarah Palin, there's just something existential about it. I'm at the point in my life where I'm bored with alot of stuff but seems to me

we should have cured cancer first instead of impotence. Impotence is not a tragedy, it's a misfortune and folks often confuse the two. Cancer on the other hand...put it this way, how can you enjoy Sex if you're dead?? Our cultural priorities don't seem very logical but then again it'd give everyone something to talk about if you're lying there in the casket with a boner.

Can or should the act of onanism land you in Hell? Posed this once at a religion forum where I was deemed somewhat controversial but seems to me if you're gonna be damned for all Eternity you should at least have done IT with another party. I don't get Catholic theology on this one, not advocating for or against but just seeing the existential absurdity of it all. God doesn't want you, the Devil doesn't want you (you're not depraved enough) and so there must be some kind of Limbo out there for folks like porno pete.

Re Love % Romance I have alot of thoughts. Now what are the odds exactly of two people feeling exactly the same way about each other? No I'm not talking about being compatible, you both like bowling and hate Obama, you both ipod to Pink, you're both against the oral but the whole Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor, Antony and Cleopatra thing, a love for the ages -- "Elaine!! Elaine!!." Can you grow to love somebody? seems in most cases we have no choice, Life ain't that poetic or doesn't cooperate or whatever which if you go back in my blogging archives is one of my recurring complaints, a romantic peeve of mine. Here's the paradox although we won't admit it, the stalker's view of the universe is the correct one, it's the way Life is supposed to be, but his or her actions are wrong of course, after all as bloggers well know it's the hardest thing trying to convince someone else of your own POV although we sure as hell try. Most folks are against the happy ending, "reunited and it feels so good", and we seem to want to trudge through Life with our bad memories. Goes a long way in explaining
our divorce culture,

It's November the 15th and here in the Northeast it's balmy again. Wondering how long it will take before the rest of my conservative brethren admit maybe the Goracle just may have the smidgeon of a point, a sliver of the total picture. I don't know how to dress in the morning anymore, it's chilly at 6AM but then I find I overdressed around 2 in the afternoon. Wasn't this way in the past when this time of year was autumnal but that was in the era before global warming and the climate change stuff. We shouldn't disagree on this one anymore only question is why do we care so much? if it's 65 degrees out in January why the massive cause for alarm? Enjoy the day, I mean if you don't have cancer.

  1. You say "what are the odds exactly of two people feeling exactly the same way about each other?" but how do you even measure feelings? How do you measure love? Two people could say they love each other unconditionally, with their whole heart, soul and mind, but does that mean it is equal? I think it is still subjective. Sometimes you just have to give the love and hope you get enough in return to make you happy.

  2. As for Sarah Palin, I kinda like her, but I'm not sure she feels the same way about me (lol).

  3. Maybe it’s just me but it is getting more apparent that our national anthem means less and less to folks these days.
I learned when I was in kindergarten that you should stand silently, with your hand over your heart. You can either sing along or just shut the fuck up but more and more people are oblivious of this.
To those of you who like to text, chat with neighbors, pick your fucken nose and scratch yourself down there let me just say you people make me sick.
Here I am in the DC arena full of liberal folks, albeit in the liberal capital of the Country and people are showing less and less respect for the anthem and what it means.
In addition more and more idiot fucks like to shout out random retarded shit at the end of the song where it says “and the home… of the brave…” brave being replaced with some ignorant shit like “The other team Sucks” which was shouted during Kansas City Chiefs football game.
Not sure why it bothers me now, I have been to more sporting events in person due to my Mrs. and me purchasing KU football tickets and witnessing the dreadful collapse of a promising football team.
Folks this is just an observation and a rant. Moodiness has its price.

This moodiness has also led to me not blogging near as much as I have in the past. I have just made a conscious decision not to pay as much attention to the days news and I use to. I’ll be honest with you; I just don’t give a shit as much anymore… or at least right now.
I’m sure the time of year has a lot to do with it. It has been a busy time here it work after next week we will have nothing major until February so I will have a lot of down time.
The weather has been great in this part of the country and I have taken advantage by riding my motorcycle and frankly this takes precedence over anything our idiot fuck president does. (Or don’t do, when he should)
I don’t want pay too much attention to Obama fucking things up, and believe me he has fuck up enormously . I will be so happy when he ceases to be president any longer. Maybe then folks can find work, recapture the “American Dream” and life can go back to some semblance of normal.
I have taken some advice from Newt during his presentation last week (if you have not watched I highly recommend). Yes Obama has fucked up things but this is America… we can and will recover and if this nation can overcome a fucken moron like Jimmy Carter we can overcome a disaster like the little prick Obama.
So while I go through my “don’t give a shit stage” but we all have our priorities and Obama or liberals in general should NOT be at the top of anybody’s give a shit list, but be on there somewhere.
I may start posting more funny and entertaining stuff to break the cycle of despair and hopelessness many face because of this Socialist thug president.
So to wrap up today, here is some things I did read this morning.
    *****
Grieving Mom demands Obama make decision on Afghanistan troop levels... As family and friends mourn a fallen U.S. paratrooper on Veteran's Day, his mother made an emotional plea to President Barack Obama that it's time to either bring home the troops or end the war in Afghanistan.
The body of Benjamin Sherman, 21, was recovered in Afghanistan Tuesday.
"It's time we do something. This has gone on too long. They either need to come home or we need to end it," a tearful Denise Sherman said.
Sherman was on his second tour of duty when he disappeared in Afghanistan last week during a mission to resupply troops in the western part of the country. He was a paratrooper with the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, based in Fort Bragg, N.C.
So my message to Obama is simply... Shit or get off the pot!

  4. I'm reserved on Palin. I'd like to hear more of her ideas and her political philosophy before jumping on that bandwagon. Surely her stepping down from the governorship resonated with me. I find it admirable that at this very moment there is someone in public office who doesn't cling to it at all costs but is instead willing to voluntary give up that power.

  5. OK Beth the love thing. Often I put it this way, how often does a person really truly fall in love in his or her life? I'd say maybe two times, for some maybe a third and it tends to happen young in life when you're still idealistic. To recap my thoughts on the subject dating rarely involves true love, it's just a search for compatibility. Now when you do fall in love once or twice in your life does the other person feel the same way? do they reciprocate? I'd say in most cases the odds are against you, it doesn't work out that way and so as a pragmatic measure most people resort to the social custom of dating. Now you have your idealists (I'm one) and your realists who say accept life as it is, nothing you can do about it but I don't know anyone who defends Life as it is. So I'd say in the vast majority of cases it's not love at first sight, most folks learn to love each other over time. Nothing wrong with that but think of the first scenario coming true much more often than it does! People don't like to think objectively in this department and come to hard conclusions that true love is mostly a myth or if true only in rare cases. Put another way you're married to someone you're perfectly compatible with but in a quiet moment at night you might wonder how Life would have been if the first man or woman you fell in love with felt the same way and it were that person you were waking up next to every day thus my Grand Theory that failure to find your soulmate accounts for our high divorce rate, it's just in the nature of things. Now that's a dissertation!

  6. I tend to agree with aoindependence, Obama has put everybody in a blue funk mood. I like soapie am very reserved about Palin. Conservative MSNBCer Michael Smerconish said on the Today Show this morning that she shouldn't have written a book to settle scores but to advance her thoughts on any policy issue of her choice instead so as to appeal to folks outside of her base (like BB). I highly agree but WTF she has chick issues going on.

  7. Palin's appeal is that she is a regular person. I read a study of her language that purports she has a rudiment of upper midwest Wisconsin usage (the Wasilla area was settled by Wisc farmers) with a bit of Idaho twang. Just like me. You bettcha!

  8. On balance I think I like her more than I don't. Very conservative guy at work said today he likes her immensely (what does he mean?) but that he wouldn't vote for her if push came to shove, mainly lack of knowledge, deficits in the foreign policy field. My 2 cents was that she ain't Kissinger but we'll see what Oprah has to say.

  9. It's always fun to have two distinct conversations going on at the same time!

Wouldn't love at first sight be shallow?

Unscripted Palin beats unscripted Obama anyday! Then again a rock would beat unscripted Obama anyday.

  10. WHY would love at first sight be shallow? What I'm against and this is a main force driving my libertarian-leaning conservatism is when they try to police your head, when folks say forget about her or him and move on to the next fish. Excuse me but the mind is its own domain, it's totally free and your wishes and desires and preferences are what make you you. Soapie recently defined the whole individual in terms of Ayn Rand's Objectivism, the person is everything that's inside your head and who is anyone else to set a value judgement on what goes on there? That's the main problem with these stalker cases so much in the news of late. Punish a person's actions if you will if they cross some line but don't engage in thought control. So what if Joe Schmo is in love with this one or that one or even a celebrity and re the celebrity cases in a perfect world class barriers wouldn't even exist. To police somebody's head is Orwellian, the Law's only legitimate concern should be to punish actions which is why I can see now Sean Hannity's objection to hate crime laws, they attempt to punish thought and that way lies totalitarianism. My Dad once said to me they can't arrest you for thinking, not yet anyway.

  11. I heard Beth that Oprah's audience didn't take to her whassup with that?

  12. I'd bet the house that if you asked Hannity his thoughts on flag burning in protest he'd have something to say on the matter that is counter to his thoughts on hate crime legislation.

Fact of the matter is that you're engaged in policing thought if you say it's okay to burn a flag that's worn and tattered but not for any other reason. It gets down to the intent; the thought behind the action.

Unless you're a psychoanalyst, it should make no difference the intent behind why someone was murdered. A man that is murdered because he's black is not more dead than a man that was murdered because his neighbor is simply off his rocker.

  13. I guess if you were a victim of Maj. Nidal Hasan, you would wish someone got 'inside his head'. Because his 'rights' were guaranteed, the 'rights' of 13 others were not. Dunno...

  14. We're talking after the fact here BB. Sure if you can read the tea leaves and prevent something dissasterous from occuring who would be against that? But again, you proceed down a real slippery slope. Sure you can go after an intent and conspiracy charge but still....

After the fact, what does it matter to find the answer to the "why??" the act has already been committed and there isn't any amount of analysis that's going to bring people back from the dead.

True, but accurate analysis may prevent future instances: US Army
    is undoubtably interested in 'why'.

  16. WHY would love at first sight be shallow?

If love is based on looks, which is what a first sight would be from, then it would be shallow, would it not?

Now if you said you thought someone could fall in love at first encounter THEN I would agree that if there is such a thing as soulmates, it would be something you would begin to feel soon after meeting someone.

  17. Beth first. By love at first sight I'm talking about the totality of the experience, those intangible qualities. Worked in Armonk once and one young hottie would walk in after another but I didn't fall in love with any of them. I'm kind of talking in a general way here but you have a good point.

  18. To elaborate on my theme here take the guy who stalked UMA. I could care less why he likes her, frankly I think it's totally irrelevant and it shouldn't be the Law's concern to get inside his head because frankly you can't. There's something about high leather boots on a woman that I like, soapie likes 'em too and let's say I like redheads as well if I keep calling her up at three in the morning that's the Law's only concern not to try to get into my personal preferences and desires. By forcing someone to see a shrink you're in effect saying don't think that way, I disagree with your sexuality here and I'm the arbiter of what's ok and what's not. I agree totally with soapie and am guessing too that Hannity would apply different standards to flag burning. I'll break this comment down into two parts...

  19. I agree with BB here but radical Islam is a special case. Sure you're talking psychological motivation here but jihad is now a political movement based on religion, this larger movement employs terror tactics so it's perfectly relevant and on this score Hasan is a no-brainer except apparently for our president. Where this whole thing is going astray is trying to get inside his head and saying he snapped because of job stress or war stress. No he didn't, he knew perfectly well what he was doing. It was a political act, he didn't massacre those soldiers because he woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day. Likewise we don't psychoanalyze bin Laden, we should simply bring him to justice.
