What is the purpose of the IQ test?

seriously

  1. Originally, they were supposed to measure 'intelligence'
    in youngsters..sort of a
    natural capacity to learn.
I understand they have fallen by the wayside lately. In response, though, I found an IQ test on the net to take. It was
sort of weird, so I clicked for the next part
and was informed "you passed-most people don't read the first part- read
all the questions before answering". Kind of odd,
I missed that part, was just curious as to what was on the next page. At any rate, intelligence can
be separate from learning or possessing a lot of education or experience.
The IQ test tells little, other than capacity to learn. And even that can
be subject to change as we learn from the Jared Laughner case: incapable of understanding a trial-but cabable of purchasing
    guns and ammo....

  3. Some questions:

-Why do I have to ask for the results?
-Why does the government need to know my IQ?
-What if the gov't deems me an idiot?
-What if I'm of genius level, does the CIA recruit me as an asset?
-Who designs the IQ? is it racially biased?
-Are there eugenic conerns down the road?

    etc. etc. etc.

  4. Judging by current blogworthy topics it's not much of a concern, only to those with a conspiratorial bent. All I remember is being in some gymnasium I think it was and taking the test and they informed us you'd have to make a special request to find out the results. So it's sitting in a drawer somewhere? who shares this info? I don't really think it was mandatory, just something they coaxed you to do. BB are you of the superlevel?

BTW, here\'s the latest conspiracy theory for your perusal and analysis...

  6. I don't recall ever being coaxed to take an IQ test, what age were you Z-man? Does have an element of Twightlight Zone to it, being coaxed and not getting the results. Hmmm.

  7. So you're down with the IQ? I'm just wondering what the point is. Someone can have an above average intelligence and yet be poor in math or history. Conspiracy theory or not what the IQ does is categorize us by intelligence. Anyway we were told we had to put in a request to get our results which begs the question most tests you just get your results as soon thereafter as possible no questions asked.

  8. That's an easy one BB, it's to make conspiracy theorists look bad (lol). Actually you never know. In my view many (but certainly not all) conspiracy theorists are rational and the key to many of their theories has to do with motive so what motive possibly could there be to hoaxify (new word) the AZ shootings? A good conspiracy theory has to have at least a few rational elements going for it. For example was OBL really killed? Well they got rid of the body in such a hurry it's almost as if Obama wanted to generate a conspiracy theory in order to make the opposition look bad. Rich territory BB but I'll throw this out to soap and it could be regarding the IQ or what have you -- I get the impression from reading most conservative commentary/bloggings/what-have-you that most of us don't know what the real problem is. In fact we're not even close.
