The GOP & the Susan Rice Affair, a funny way to go after Obama's demographics

Ninety-seven GOP House members have sent a letter to the White House basically saying UN Ambassador Susan Rice shouldn't even be considered for the Sec'y of State slot now that Hillary is leaving.  This is only a symbolic vote of course as the real action takes place in the Senate but it does carry some weight.  Now conservatives in general are opposed to Obama who happens to be black.  They're not opposed to him because he's black but because he is an unreconstructed liberal but the perception still floats out there.  Now they seem just as opposed to Susan Rice's nomination and she happens to be an African-American.  This is......awkward.  Senators John McCain from AZ and Lindsey Graham of SC are leading the charge against her in the Senate.  Saw Graham recently on Meet the Press and I didn't like the way he came across.  Ya got the Southern twang going and he's against another high-ranking black, I'm just sayin' (mental image of Graham humping Ned Beatty, McCain on the banjo).  You know when you're the passenger in a car with someone, you're not even driving but you feel your whole body tense up and become stiff throughout the whole ride?  I'm finding myself cringing here and as a practical matter it might be smart to drop the whole Susan Rice thing.  Yeah I know she repeated those Benghazi talking points on all the Sunday morning talk shows but she was obviously speaking on behalf of the President and I kinda agree here to be honest that they need to take it up with him instead if there's a problem and there is.  They don't like Eric Holder either and he's of color and I think they have a strong case with Fast and Furious and some other business but the Stupid Party really needs to start thinking of the racial scorecard here.  Go all out on Susan Rice and see how it comes back to haunt you come 2016 - happy demograpics.  Benghazi is already beclouding Obama's second term here, the sequel ain't going well but I'm just wonderin' what the strategy wonks in the GOP are thinking.

  1. IMO, the politics transcends racism. What liberal doesn't despise Clarence Thomas, Allen West and Herman Cain? Not race:
they are just Scalia, Bachmann and
    Gingrich types, respectively. The
old 'content of their character, not the color of their skin' rubs both ways. Just thinkin...

  2. The strategy wonks in the GOP are commiserating amongst themselves that they lost the Presidential election on STRATEGY, not ISSUES....

....they don't think they need to change a thing about the issues, just the way they present them.

  3. This is why the GOP and politics as a whole is a futile endeavor for small/limited government minded people. Instead of a letter opposing a nomination for UN ambassador, how about some ACTION on disbanding the UN entirely?

  4. I see the GOP as basically a party of older white guys, think McCain and Boehner. Is the Rice fight even worth having? I don't think so. Is Rice some high-ranking member of the Secret Cabal who went on the Sunday morning talk shows and deliberately lied about Benghazi? don't think so either. Hey BB excellent insight but here's a double rub for ya, if it rubs both ways maybe libs are racists too.

  5. Yeah Saty if only Romney had gone bowling with a couple of Mexicans and took the women out to some chick flick...although the thought occured to me maybe it's the Mormon thing after all. The issues and yet I thought Obama was wrong on most of the issues. I mean you can't spend a few bucks at Walmart for some bc pills have to get your local Bishop to somehow foot the bill? Perhaps if Romney had put a rubber on a banana at the RNC...

  6. 'ya, if it rubs both ways maybe libs are racists too.'. That was my point. It's more complicated in that if A disagrees with B and B is a different race, there will always be C shouting racism. Often
it is not, just A disagreeing with
    B. Ya, it rubs every which way.

  7. More rubbing -- I think what you're saying too is there doesn't seem to be any black moderates in politics these days and so the black conservatives will be criticized as well as the black liberals. Sat is the only one around here who thinks Obama is some kind of centrist. I think with Rice though it doesn't rise to the occasion of we should take on another African-American.

  8. I've taken the liberty of writing to Senators McCain, Graham and Ayotte concerning their attacks on
Ms. Rice. Last time I wrote a Senator was to stay the hell out of Iraq and we see how that turned out. Dunno, gotta try, at least I'm on the record.

  9. Yeah the more practical wisdom says don't go there the more they dig in. I feel alot of it has to do with they wanna stay on good terms with Rush and Sean, it's like they kinda give the marching orders.

  10. There's a principle I've come up with that the GOP should abide by but alas! It's the Principle of Racial Least Resistance and basically states that if there's no valid overwhelming reason to oppose an African-American for promotion to a prominent office then let it ride. Key word "valid" and in my view in the final analysis it's why I'm one of the few conservatives not opposed to her nomination. I'm still expecting a kudo or two from Saty for being an independent conservative. In fairness will Shaw quote my remarks or does she only do that when you have a dickheaded weak moment?
