At what point can we say there's a problem with some aspect of Islam?

The Halloween terror attack in Lower Manhattan. You know the details: a 29-year old radicalized man from Uzbekistan, Sayfullo Saipov rented a Home Depot pickup truck in NJ then drove to Lower Manhattan on the West Side and deliberately used the vehicle to kill eight people on a bike lane just north of and literally in the shadow of Ground Zero. Among the dead were some Argentinian tourists in town for a reunion. Saipov then yelled the customary "Allahu Akbar" meaning "God is great" when he left the truck brandishing a pellet gun and paint gun and then ran down the street before he was shot in the abdomen by a hero cop whose career trajectory would seem to be way up at this point. You know the rest: radicalized over the Web, lover of ISIS videos, requested an ISIS flag during his hospital stay etc. etc. So then model Gigi Hadid called some alt-right woman on Twitter a fucking moron for saying something about the lack of decency of two women walking around in hijabs in the area of the attack so there's that. Well anyway as the post-title says throw your coins in the fountain here.

  1. Sure there's a problem with some aspect of Islam: the extreme fundamentalist Taliban Sharia aspect. Throw in the
problem with the internet and there are some zombies that
get programmed. You would think that someone close to them
would warn the authorities-and quite often they do. Bring them in, check them out and turn them loose. I'm still hung up on the NRA poster boy who machine-gunned an audience, killing 58 and wounding 489. 7 times as many dead, 44 times as many wounded. The right comes unglued about a demented
Uzbekistani, but the larger massacre not a word, except
guns don't kill- people do. Either way, we got problems:
Daughter had a friend from Kazhakstan, but she got a PhD here in physical chemistry and became a professor. Seems like we could sort them out? But no, our guys are all excited about a big tax break for the rich. Basically it
seems these things are all collateral damage; you know, goes
with living in a free society, etc. You suspect any affect on NYC tourism?

  2. Another thought: I'm not sure about the standard Muslim heaven, but these ISIS-Taliban guys
are sure that killing 'infidels' will land them forever in a harem populated with willing virgins.
Us? Heck, we're faced with an eternity of singing hymns to harp music in the clouds. Proof:
Christians don't go on killing sprees these days.

  3. I mean yeah Pat Robertson and John Hagee aren't driving trucks over people. What if another Muslim guy wants to rent a truck from Home Depot? Not the first time a group of tourists have been killed in NYC. Yeah the Las Vegas massacre has kinda faded. It's become the new normal. Meanwhile Robert Mueller seems to mean business.

    1. The ISIS/El Qadah type vehicle/knife/gun terrorists are attracted to large groups. Like hermits are probably immune. IMO, the NYC police are about as good as any with their terrorist counter intelligence and security...but it is a huge population.

  5. I notice that Trump immediately called for the death penalty.

Did he or did he not call for the death penalty for Charlottesville? I seem to recall that he didn't. All the rules change if you're not white.

  6. Sen. Rand Paul attacked by neighbor, also a physician, who broke five of the Senator's ribs. All over
whose yard the leaves were blowing into. Terror attack?

    1. The Dems are in a shambles; reminds me of 1968, when Eugene McCarthy and George McGovern
captured the young vote. Lyndon picked Hubert Humphry, VN was sending home body bags by the
shipload and Nixon won by a huge landslide. Yep, THAT Nixon. The young are enthusiastic, idealistic
and focused...with a short attention span. Such is the inevitable cycle, the Dems will return when the
latest trickle-down, big biz outfit leaves us in another deep recession or downright depression. Recall Hoover/Roosevelt, Ford/Carter, Bush-1/Clinton, Bush-2/Obama. Bernie is still living?

  8. Have you noticed that WalMart is using robot employees ? They are inventory clerks and tell the
humans when to replace or order stock items. We ponder whether these tin men will try to form a union and how to address the robot Walmart greeter next time we go.

  9. Been considering 'Make America Great Again'- when or what that time was seems to vary from person to person (I'm thinking probably may would say some year when they were in grade school). Others
would want to live in cholera infected Philadelphia among the founders; some prefer the ante-bellum
South, where slaves did all the work (but not the blacks, of course): a few might thing Great America
was when there were lots of factory jobs, you worked the same place your whole life and got a pension-
like the 1950s. But the only people who actually live the old Great America are the Amish, IMO...you
got your horse and buggy, you all team up to build the neighbor's house, grow your own food and live
and let live. Dunno, Z-Man when do you think America was greatest?

    1. What I don't like about the Amish is they're known to shun their own who have done wrong? That's Christian? The Good Old Days - NYC was known to have a bad prostitution problem in like the 1890's. You later had Al Capone, Lansky and basically the same problems you have today. Was there ever a time when things were Great?

    2. True. However, we note that shunning (anathema, cherem, disfellowship) is a common religious
punishment going back to I Corinthians 5-11. St. Paul did it, the Hebrews, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons and Scientologists as well. The ever canon law Catholics even had two versions of the shun until 1917: major/minor, venal/mortal we presume. Black cadets at West Point were subject to 4
years of sitting alone, scientists who believe in young earth creationism or no climate change get
shunned by their peers etc. It seems common that kids get shunned: they go to lunch and all the others get up and leave the table. One place I worked, a woman forgot her deodorant one day and was so picqued when she was shunned that she wrote a poem in the weekly company newspaper. Exclusion from your group is a powerful social tool. I've been kicked off blogs, but Spinoza was shunned by his synagogue, proving the exception that loners are immune to being shunned. Almost a political slogan 'Let's Make Shunning Great Again' ya know? To your credit though, Amish shunning seems more
hurtful, given their antediluvian tightness and lifestyle.

    3. Mel Gibson was shunned for awhile but now he's back. How long does one have to hug the cactus anyway? I see Charlie Rose is up on sexual harassment charges and is off CBS for now. Now here's one guy that doesn't seem the type at all. Is everyone a perv? What's going on here???

    4. Whaat? Is sexual harrassemnt this year's Twerking Fad? The Mrs. said “BB, you old fossil, you ever
touch, grab or make googly eyes at a woman in your long and peculiar career?” After some thought,
a painful memory came back. 3rd day of Kindergarten, 10th Ward Elemenary: it seemed a good idea
to introduce myself by going around and kissing every kindergarten girl in the class. For some reason,
this enraged Miss Hansen, who relegated me to sit under her desk facing the class for the remander of
the day. So, I said to Mrs. BB, “well”..and explained the situation. After a good laugh at my pre- pubescent misadventure, she warned me to keep an eye out for e-mails from old dames. But, such was
the lesson, I was always very careful with women employees. Had one transfer in with an attendence
record 3 hours short of being terminated. She turned out to be a high performer, having perfect attendence for the next year. I congradulated her, she beamed....and I patted her on the head.
Dunno, though, Z-Man, the American Male seems to be the punching bag of the year.

    1. This goes back to my very complicated thoughts on Hell. A part of me is with all the rest that Hades doesn't really exist but then the logical part of me goes where do the Chuckie Mansons go? Was there some sort of service and what does the priest or preacher say? How many attended? Where is he buried or was he burned?

  11. No offense BB but seems my Yahoo e-mail has you relegated to Spam lately so I often respond to your posts in a belated sort of way. I thought my blog was becoming fossilized and obsolete until I started seeing you in my Spam Folder today. Maybe the filter is mistaking you for a dating site or car parts?

    1. Relegated to Spam? Since I'm not a listed spammer, no clue. Could be I use too many words.
Or uncommon blogwords like 'ubiquitous, umbrage, quid pro quo, halcyon, juxtaposed, harbinger,
inveterate, elucidate..etc. Along those lines, though, at 'Stranded' the word “colon” appears more than
      frequently..almost ubiquitous. Just saying.

  12. We just got our internet speed upgraded to 3meg and I feel like I'm working at Google. It's pretty amazing.

I'm not sure what's behind this trend of outing sexual harassers except that now people feel empowered to come forth and state their claims. No one is exempt but the President, who no one seems to mind has several women accusing him of the same thing. Roy Moore, doesn't being removed from your judge position for contempt sort of disqualify you from being a senator? Why is it okay?

It's holiday season again which means I'm working. I got some extended time off at Christmas so it's okay. Scott is going to VA for the holiday weekend to work on getting the house ready.

Z, I'm doing a modified Atkins diet and I have come to the conclusion that carbohydrates are a drug more powerful than dope. I swear I'm in withdrawal...will it get any easier? On the bright side I've lost almost ten pounds so far.

    Yall have a good holiday.
