You really look like you could use a glass of water

The Associated Press just concluded a 5 month investigation into our water supply, turns out there are trace amounts of various pharmaceuticals in many major American cities, things like mood stabilizers, medicine for whooping cough, high blood pressure, you name it. Guy on the Newshour last night said not to worry, only traces but then a few minutes later says even those traces can have an effect on your body, also water filtration plants don't even test for pharmaceuticals. Eh, small price to pay for our overmedicated society. Tom Cruise, we'll give you this one.

  1. I wonder if my Brita water filter takes care of this.

  2. Probably not judging by what they said on that Jim Lehrer report last night. I honestly never knew or even suspected they reprocess what is essentially our human waste and then it gets reconsumed, I thought your-ine was just pumped out to sea eventually, no wonder this country is so f****d up. Beam me up Sir Scotty, I want the hell off this spaceship.

  3. At Epcot in Orlando, FL, I saw a quote at the exhibit for natural resources that reminds us that the water we have now is the same water that has been here for all of history. I mean think about it, the same water since Jesus' time, recirculating and such. Thank God they have filtration and stuff nowadays, really. It shouldn't surprise us that all those drugs are in our water.

  4. Maybe the brandy or cognac would be safer for drinking than water, huh?

  5. Probably.

It's not the idea that the water's old as you say that really bothers me, it's that I'm drinking someone else's problems. Tom Cruise, I'm with ya babe.

  7. Not so much that it's old, but do you really think that throughout history there is enough fresh water to be consumed only once per person?

It's one of those things we don't really think about, but it's the truth.

Maybe Al Gore can do something about it.

I wonder what else we don't know about. We only find out now that Made in China is bad for us from our pet food to toys for kids. So why do we find all these things out so late in the day?

  9. Someone told me, they heard it first on the radio, that when you look at the list of ingredients on a box of food, if one of the ingredients is in red followed by a number it's petroleum which is added for coloring. The woman on the radio also said this ingredient scrambles up kids' brains so we have the water problem, we have the problem of too many chemicals and preservatives in our food, our pet food and God knows what else...a little scary.

  10. Oh my, sometimes too much info can make your head swim, then again maybe its the water making me feel that way.

Hard to know if the bottled water is less or more risky than the tap water, sheesh!

  11. Well, that AP dude on Jim Lehrer said the spring is not immune to the problem either but I still can't get over the fact that we've been J.D. Salingering ourselves without even knowing it.

  13. You're right, you can only worry so much.

  14. ...but as I posted in my blog today I'm wondering if excess worrying about what diseases we may come down with can lead to a kind of hypertension. Ignorance may not be bliss after all but maybe too much knowledge ain't good either, dunno.

  15. There has to be a happy medium, think of it as moderation of thought perhaps.
