Finally, a Hollywood celebrity who gets it

There is something refreshing about Richard Gere's support for the Tibetan democracy movement, shows you don't always have to support socialist and communist regimes like Cuba. Michael Moore & co., wanna jump on board?

  1. Tread lightly here Z-man. I noticed a couple of days ago that political activists (or hell, maybe they were just your everyday regular Joe activists) scaled the Golden Gate Bridge to unfurl a banner "Free Tibet" for all to see.

Hardly sounds like something any right minded individual could or even would disagree with right?

However, I couldn't help but wonder where on earth such protesters were when the California Court of Appeals ruled against homeschooling and homeschoolers in citing that the parents of said children had to have teaching "credentials". Seems to me like a ruling in favor of the government monopoly which is K-12 education. The implication is that one's children are property of the state.

I don't think there is any doubt that a great many of these "Free Tibet" sort of activists and protesters would applaud the Appeals Court ruling.

So, I inquire, what is the purpose of being free and fighting for democracy on the front end if the aim on the backend is to enslave the populace into liberal indoctrination and socialism?

I question his motives (as well as a great many others).

  2. All good points soap but it's a start. I mean we're so used to the Castro lovefest among the Hollywood crowd that I can't really argue with a celebrity's choice for a cause this time.

One thing's for sure, the late Charlton Heston was the real deal.

Well, you'll get no argument from me there. I may have been a bit premature in my initial comments. Because, I have to admit, I don't much care what their "true" motive may or may not be so long as they're coming around to our way of thinking.

Do I hear Amen on that??!!

  6. You and I seem to have the same window of opportunity for blogging at certain times of the day, today being my day off. I say free up Beth and abolish the income tax.

  7. I'm quite certain that Atlas Shrugged is available on CD. I wonder who is the reader??

As for blogging Z, I pop in periodically throughout the day (7:30a-4:30p CST) so anything that I've got an opinion on will most certainly get addressed.

It's tax time. I presume Beth is up to her ears in it. She'll come around....she always comes around. But yeah, things would be easier without an income tax (State and otherwise).

  8. I'm around, not as much as I usually am, though I am making more money than I do at home on the Internet, lol. After April 15th I will probably be back to my habit of surfing throughout the day.

  9. I must confess, this season is the first time we have watched American Idol, my kids love it and it's something we can all watch together. Now maybe these singers are going to end up like Britney, hopefully they won't, because they come across as real genuine and wholesome, so there are some role models for kids to see, dream it, and it can happen (but also the reality that it doesn't happen for them all).

Anyway, to the point of this blogging, last night they had their second annual American Idol Gives Back show, where a lot of big name stars come on and sing and tell jokes, but also they raise money and awareness for 6 different charities. Lots of corporations get in a partnering, which I also admire. So, sometimes the Hollywood types do use their celebrity for good. They also actually visit Africa or the children they are helping, they don't just talk the talk.

Anyway, it is heartening, in my opinion.

  10. Bono comes to mind and he has met with Bush on occasion so he's not one of these lib celeb types who want talk with a Republican. Funny story, when John Paul was pope he and Bono met and John Paul took a liking to Bono's famous shades, guess he liked 'em so much he never gave them back or else forgot to.
