Go to http://bluewavecanada.blogspot.com/2009/09/reality-of-violent-opponents.html for the tragic story of pro-life activist Jim Pouillon's murder. Jim Pouillon was sitting across a school in Michigan holding his pro-life poster when a car pulled up and did a drive-by. The self-avowed pro-life hater also allegedly killed another man and was searching for a third when apprehended.
Do pro-choicers need to police their own speech? Does Keith Olbermann need to dial down the vitriol? Should we hold the NOW gang personally responsible for Jim Pouillon's murder?
Ya wanna know something? on a theoretical, abstract and even practical plane it's all good and despite the most heated verbiage on BOTH sides actual incidents of violence is something that's really few and far between. Ya wanna know something else? some people just don't LIKE free speech, lately it's the liberal crowd. Now ever since the tea parties and townhalls liberals in general like Bill Moyers and Frank Rich and the liberal msm in particular, well put it this way their absolute hatred for conservatism is coming to a rolling boil now, all the invective they can muster up is coming YOUR way but if I can sum up their overall theme about US we're totally for the rights of the individual against the welfare of the larger society or community, we're anarchists who are totally against the government or the State, potential McVeighs, we're against charity or caring for others, we're conspiracy-mongers (although what's wrong with the notion that the occasional conspiracy theory may actually be true?), in short we hate the State (well kinda true) but the biggest thing I'm seeing of late is that liberals HATE free speech, it's always free speech is good and fine and swell and American BUT (go over what they said about O'Reilly in the wake of George Tiller's murder) but on this front what would happen if we didn't always call for tempering or policing our own speech? what if we just let her rip? what if we just let free speech be, say what we will? I submit that in general
NOTHING
would happen, and the few extreme cases that are alleged to have been caused by the hateful speech of others however dubious the connection does not justify in the least chipping away, abridging or otherwise curtailing or suppressing the free speech of others. OR to put it another way so Ted Bundy liked porn.
They don't mind free speech as long as you agree with them.
ReplyDeleteShoprat actually knew the guy who was killed and blogged about him. He did mention that the pro-life guy sometimes used the cut-up dead baby pictures when protesting, to which speaking of free speech as a pro-lifer myself I don't like people using those kind of pictures, but I don't yell at those who do, I just point out how I think showing the beauty of life is better than showing death.
ReplyDeleteI was just listening to Hannity on the drive over and he played a clip from Chris Matthews saying if violence breaks out over Obama all those health-care protestors and conservative talk radio hosts will have much to answer for. David Gregory too of Meet the Press last Sunday was also harping on the theme of violence. So you're perfectly right Beth, when speech disagrees with the liberal progressive agenda they come up with other rationales for eventually curbing it and believe you me that is the ultimate agenda here to someday legally curb free speech.
ReplyDeleteYou have to love what passes for wisdom in Washington DC these days...
ReplyDeletePresident Obama is blowing it. He has proven to be a complete failure.
I have no problem with the word intelligent being applied to Pres Obama. But wisdom is far more important. He has none. That will be the downfall of his life and those who follow his course. Unfortunately his fall will destroy many innocent ones too
Obama walks on imaginary water and eats humble pie larded with humming bird tongues and served by six and twenty hand maidens.
He can not get enough of himself and he is anxious for the world to have him before them. His brother in the hut and his illegal alien aunt in the projects are necessary bangles on his charm bracelet. For Obama they show the failure of the state and his dedication to creating a cradle of welfare for everyone.
This is a man who believes he has overcome messy bodily functions and who sees himself as having mastered all he surveys. Even when he admits to some error, he frames it as a necessary part of polishing his crown.
He is the biggest float in the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade. But he is also the only float that blew himself up with his own hot air
& I was one of the few conservatives willing to give him a fair shake in the early going. Did a blog once and gave his report card an L for liberal but Joe and I gave him a passing grade in foreign policy (Iraq and Afghanistan) so what does he do? He promises Putin he'll take away that missile-defense shield in Eastern Europe pissing off the Poles and the Czechs and then gives a mealy-mouthed speech at the UN. He has intelligence but no wisdom, that's your best line Mr. Brooklyn.
ReplyDeleteYour Sept 9 post and this one match up beautifully...
ReplyDeleteGuess I'm going to have to link your site to my favorites roll...
A Guy From Brooklyn,
ReplyDeleteYou must be the same person known as heliotrope — September 24, 2009 @ 8:09 am - September 24, 2009, who posted the #3 comment in Gay Patriot's blog.
Either that, or you're using other people's comments and posting them as your own. That's called plagiarism, and it's cheating.
Re those notorious tea parties and townhalls I've as yet to hear a liberal say "I hate and disagree with everything they stand for but will defend to the death their right to say it." Anyone?
ReplyDeleteThanx christian soldier and I had to backtrack to that Sept. 9th post. I've been meaning to visit yours and other blogs but my work schedule is so terrible this week,
ReplyDeletewhen oh when can I get back to my regularly scheduled life??

Couldn't have been Lee who said that (lol).
