A TRUE conservative would......

This is a rhetorical blog and sometimes a liberal on the board will misread (not mentioning any names but it's not the nurse) and so the following does not necessarily represent my own views but how do you feel about the following statement? (I can make a fairly educated guess as to soapie's position):

A true conservative would get rid of --

All welfare and unemployment benefits
Medicaid and Medicare
Social Security
Get rid of all minimum-wage laws
Abolish the Dept. of Education
Abolish the IRS
Ban abortion

and for good measure would also get rid of the Post Office as it currently exists by privatizing it.

OK you get some wiggle room here so if not now then over time. Personally I'd get rid of the IRS in a heartbeat and instead of the cost of a first-class stamp going up practically every year now I'd privatize this racket, open it up to more competition and I would also send abortion back to the states where it belongs. As for the first three, the Big Three, those all began as liberal big-government programs and I daresay it'd be a rare conservative bird indeed who would call for their outright repeal so really everything trends towards liberalism in the end doesn't it? Yanking the Big Three would cause massive social upheaval to put it mildly. Of course liberals would argue banning abortion would also accomplish that but that's for people who have made a habit out of the practice imo but I want to get to something the singer Seal said in 2007 in an interview on A&E's "Private Sessions", in fact it stunned me when I caught a repeat the other night. Now don't get me wrong, I like the man and his music, his haunting vocals, his rich and humanistic lyrics but in the middle of the show he talked about happiness and how you have the right to be happy, have the right to whatever you desire, it's your birthright he emphasized as if this is self-evident and I think without knowing it he really tumbled across the essence, the very marrow of liberalism. You SHOULD be happy, nay you have the RIGHT to be happy (a good job with good wages, a good health-care package, a rock-hard erection, healthy food, great shelter, don't let an unwanted fetus stand in your way etc.). Now Seal didn't say these things of course, he never explained how your very birthright is to be enforced but by contrast conservatives must want you to suffer. "Pick yourself up by your bootstraps young man!" "Show your boss you deserve that raise by working your ass off" "Teach a man how to fish and he'll have food for life" and other nostrums and slogans. All those years of existential angst, if only I realized what Seal realizes I'd be having that poolside Asian massage right now, 'tis my right after all. Added a couple Seal songs to my playlist the other day to show I'm not biased but he really enunciated very well the endgame of liberalism even if he wasn't aware of it.

  1. The first 6 should be eliminated immediately. The 7th...return it to the states.

  3. "Yanking the Big Three would cause massive social upheaval to put it mildly."

Indeed and to that we should remind the citizenry:

"Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have."

  4. I'm sure you're tired of hearing this by now, the fact of your

    CONSISTENCY

but I'm saying it again. Also real cojones, something in short supply today.

  5. (what's the deal w/Rangel?).

All I know is that I made a big fuss about him on my blog as I always do to this creep.
He thinks because he's been around so long the rules no longer apply to him.
But let us count the ways!!!!! He has served in the House for nearly 40 years, and although he certainly know the drill, he conveniently failed to report $1.3 million in income for the past 4 years... He also failed to disclose $75,000 in rental income. But when the House Ethics committee opened a probe of Rangel's trips to conferences in the Caribbean, Rangel disclosed more than $500,000 in previously unreported assets. He also owns THREE rent controled homes in New York when you are only allowed to own ONE.
And HE is the leader of the ethics committee? He should be head of the a slimeball committee, and stripped of all positions he holds in congress... He is a disgrace to every American law abiding citizen.
BTW, do we have a unethical committee?

  6. I never get tired of hearing it. Intellectual consistency is of great virtue and indeed in short supply.

Of course even suggesting eliminating them brings a flurry of open jaws amongst those within earshot. With it comes of course the proclamations of (as you correctly stated) "massive social upheaval".

It would behoove those to take inventory of exactly where the hell we come to find ourselves at this very moment. Dare tell me the unsustainability of the first three isn't cause for mass upheaval anyway.

  7. Yeah and Rangel's the one who helped write the current Tax Code. Sent in my tax form couple years ago and got an important letter back from the IRS, seemed I failed to answer one tiny question on some line of lesser importance so you can't tell me a guy who wrote the tax code just forgot about stuff.

  8. Soapie as you and I both know once laws and policies are passed they become entrenched and mighty hard to undo. We recently got health-care "reform", a financial regulatory bill and now Obama wants to tackle immigration and the rest of us are like "Hold up!" Re the Big Three there would be massive social upheaval should any of these or all three become undone precisely because we have become so dependent on government in the past.

  9. I used to say hold up. Now I'm singing a different tune. The masses still aren't getting it so we need to pour more fuel on the fire. It's pretty funny to hear people say they want government out of their lives and blah blah blah but boy you mention gutting the DOE or eliminating SS or Medicare and holy shit...

The most telling of the recent revelations of the liberal/left Journalism, a list consisting of about 400 major liberal/left journalists, is the depth of their hatred of us conservatives…as exemplified by the e-mail from an NPR reporter expressing her wish to personally see Rush Limbaugh die a painful death -- and the apparent absence of any objection from the other liberal journalists.
Every one of us on the right has seen this hatred by the mainstream elite liberal journalists. There is simply nothing analogous among elite conservative journalists. Yes, nearly all conservatives believe that the left is leading America to ruin. But while there is plenty of conservative anger over this fact, there is little or nothing on the right to match the left's hatred of conservative individuals.
From Karl Marx to today, the Left has always hated people on the Right, not merely differed or been angry with them. Why?
First, the left thinks the right is evil. Examples are innumerable. For example, Howard Dean, the former head of the Democratic Party said, "In contradistinction to the Republicans ... (Democrats) don't believe kids ought to go to bed hungry at night." Or take Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Fla., who, among many similar comments, said, "I want to say a few words about what it means to be a Democrat. It's very simple: We have a conscience."
Second, when you don't confront real evil, you hate those who do. Whether out of guilt over their own cowardice or fear that the one who confronted the bully would provoke the bully to lash out more, those who refuse to confront the bully often resent the one who does. During the 1980s, the left expressed far more hatred of Ronald Reagan than of Soviet Communist dictator Leonid Brezhnev. And, when Reagan labeled the Soviet Union an "evil empire," the liberal world was enraged ... at Reagan. Today, the left has similar contempt for those who take a hard line on Islamic terror. The liberal and leftist media routinely place quote marks around the words War on Terror…the Obama administration has actually forbidden use of the term "Islamic terror." The real enemies the Democratic administration is prepared to name are the Republican Party, tea parties, Fox News and talk radio.
Third, the left's utopian vision is prevented only by the right. From its inception, leftism has been a secular utopian religion….imagining a utopian future. There will be no poor, no war, no conflict, no inequality. That future is only a few more government programs away from reality. And who stands in the way of such perfection? Conservatives.
How could a utopian not hate a conservative? The right, with its beliefs in a strong military; in individuals, not the state; taking care of themselves, their families and their neighbors; and in punishing criminals, is the anti-Love, a figure as reviled on the left as the antichrist is to Christians. The right, with its beliefs in a strong military; in individuals, not the state; taking care of themselves, their families and their neighbors; and in punishing criminals, is the anti-Love, a figure as reviled on the left as the antichrist is to Christians.
This hatred will only increase if the left feels its programs to greatly increase the size of the government are in any way threatened in the forthcoming elections.
Our President is followed by every news agency and every word he speaks is broadcast nationally. And you certainly can not deny that he is continually demonizing the other side of the aisle. Can you recall any other President that has done this so frequently in the past 40 years? I doubt it. When did you ever see Bush demonize the left side of the aisle? If nothing else, Obama knows his audience, that’s why he’s going to be on the “VIEW” something that I wouldn't waste my time watching!

  11. My basic thing is smaller government, try to keep things at the local level as much as possible, and expect personal responsibility from our government and each other. Which brings up the topic of Charlie Rangel, he does NOT take responsibility very well, and is an excellent example of corruption in government that needs to stop.

  12. Keep it local, I like that Beth.

  13. Let's just say that Communism is inside the White House.
2010 and 2012 is the time to take this corrupted government back for the people.

Smaller government, Lower taxes, Honor and honesty has to be re installed in Washington now. Communism inside the White House is truly unacceptable in America!
