What the critics of the critics of the Ground Zero mosque don't get

Islam is problematic.

You have two major schools of thought on Islam. One, that at the very core of Islam right there in the Qu'ran itself is a call for violent jihad. This is a question that the mods at Hannityland in their infinite wisdom have refused to allow an open discussion of. In fact it will get you banned there but that only has the effect of having it percolate somewhere else rather than openly and honestly addressing the question. Having known a few Muslims in my day it's not my view and so to borrow a page from Wikipedia this article needs attention from an expert on the subject. See the talk page for details. The Z-man Portal may be able to recruit an expert (I wonder who, hmmm??). The second major school of thought is the pc one, that violent jihadists are a terrible minority within the larger peaceful Islam but this begs the question if the psychos are really such a tiny group you'd think they would have petered out or died off by now. The Z-man position happily splits the difference acknowledging that most Muslims are perfectly peaceful but that that radical minority is a substantial minority. It's not enough to paint critics of the Ground Zero mosque as a bunch of hateful Islamophobes, rather it's to acknowledge that Islam is problematic.

Discuss.

  1. Z, the Muslim practice of building a mosque at the site of their military victories is well known. This is no different.
You say No one gets it!

I get it, you get it Sarah Palin GETS it! Everyone gets it, but the lefties don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.
Why has it taken so long to rebuild the WTC site? Why aren't we more concerned with that?
Screw the mosque! Let's not cave into the Left's insane priorities.
This mosque is not about religious freedom. It's about making an Islamofascist political statement and building an Islamic commemoration of a military victory by an organization linked to terrorist funding, and should NOT be allowed to happen...
America needs lots more patriotic citizens who have their heads screwed on right like Sarah Palin, and Chris Christie.

  2. Michael Bloomberg sure as hell doesn't get it.

  3. If u "got" it, you'd let them build the damn thing because fundamentally you would know that freedom of religion in this country transends all the other partisan political bullshit.

  4. My whole point though is that the pc folks act like Islam isn't problematic when everyone knows it is, problematic in the sense that Christians and Jews don't fly planes into buildings. We just want to know which ones.

  5. Careful with that Z. It wasn't "Islam" that flew planes into buildings. It was individuals that took said action and wrote it off as an action which was justified by their interpretation of Islam.

This is no different than a pro-life Christian who adopts an interpretation of his/her religion in which they feel justified in bombing an abortion clinic with its employees inside.

  7. All right, soapie, I'm behind you 100% on this one.

In fact, the best memorial for these people would be to promote religious freedom.

And at least PART of why the project hasn't been finished is because NYC is an insanely complicated place where it's ridiculously difficult to do even the simplest of things.

And because it all runs on money, and I mean that in many different ways.

  8. Saty and soap, have you read the latest ADL position/statement on this matter? Bear in mind they usually take the politically correct position but even they admit the issue's a little more complicated than this. We really need to check out the funding on this one, analyze if there's any ties to radical groups. Just one spokesman saying "let me be clear, there is no..." doesn't cut it in this day and age. PC kills.

  9. Re your other point soapie anti-abortion Christians who bomb abortion clinics are the tiniest minority within the larger anti-abortion movement and are always, but always condemned by the larger pro-life movement when they do engage in violent means. They are condemned in no uncertain terms something the larger Islamic community can learn from.

  10. Blah blah blah. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

  11. Acts of anti-abortion violence are actually few and far between compared to the acts of violence by radical Muslims which are all too common. The other question arises which I thought of throwing out there, why do liberals somehow view Christians as a dangerous hate group but go out of their way for the Muslim community? Is it because the enemy of my enemy is my friend?
