The Good Ole Summertime

Yesterday it was 104 degrees in Central Park a record for July the 22nd. There was no major power outages to my knowledge but you dread them just the same this time of year Crank up the temps and folks naturally crank up the AC units then naturally blame Con Ed when the power grid can't handle it and they don't fix it in a timely enough fashion as in NOW. People today don't want any discomfort, no more that shared sense of sacrifice for the greater good and gone is the day of the Fan you used to see in those old black & white film noir detective movies with the gumshoe's feet on the cluttered desk and the old and tired dog in the corner. Now I'm not against the AC, I'm not against Progress by any stretch and schools, stores and most especially hospitals need it this time of year. The elderly and the sick are most at risk during a heatwave but what about the Rest of Us? Ceiling fans, there ya go! What if most of us opted to use a fan in order to reduce the chances of the next major blackout? just a thought. Think of how much you can save on your next electric bill. Anyway there's a definite difference between 90 and 100 and yesterday even just going to your car or sitting on your porch reading the paper was like being on Venus. It's hard on the pets but they know what to do, take it easy. We haven't even gotten to the dog days of August yet, oy vey!

  1. I am a huge fan of fans. We have ceiling fans in every room and we even had two installed on our front porch. They make such a huge difference. We keep the AC set at 80 for the most part during the summer. It sounds very warm but 80 is practically chilly when it's 105 outside and having the fan moving the air around just makes it seem even cooler.

Another thing we do is have one of those programmable thermostats and it's set to run the house a few degrees warmer (summer) or colder (winter) at night and at times we're not home. It doesn't seem like a big deal but it makes a big difference in our bill.

Lastly we are very lucky to live in an area where for about 6 months out of the year we don't use heat OR air. Usually we can go from late April through July without air (this year has been a bit different) and then generally we can go from September through November before we turn the heat on. And in the winter we keep the house set at 66ish. I freeze my ass off (I put a jacket on when it hits 70) but it cuts our bill WAY down.

  2. Oh, and according to Rush, it's not really that hot out, it's just a conspiracy to make everyone THINK it's hot so they believe in global warming.

Apparently the conspirators are seriously good at their jobs... they hijacked the thermometer in my husband's car and set it to 106. Can you imagine the technology they have to get inside the car and reset the thermometer? Plus every single bank and insurance company with one of those time/temp signs outside. Every one of them said 106! Now seriously, that's an impressive conspiracy. They've even taken over NOAA and sent out heat emergency bulletins on our weather radio. I'd say to put on your tinfoil hat, but with the heat it might fry your brain. Or maybe not, if it's not really as hot as They want you to believe.

  3. Speaking of leftist conspiracies, the NASA meteorological models are predicting NYC temps 10 degrees hotter than current in the summer of 2080. I've used some of their
computer programs for detonation/shock and interior ballistics and unfortunately, they work well...

  4. All that global warming stuff is a Marxist/Socialist/Fascist conspiracy hoax to destroy American Family Values and kill jobs.

NASA is a tool of Liberal Socialist Lenin-Maoist propaganda.

According to Pat Robertson, in 2080 the world will be locked in a giant ice age as God's punishment for New York allowing gay marriage.

Who do YOU believe? God... or a bunch of tree-hugging Fascists who hate America?

  5. There could be global warming but there is no clear evidence that it is natural and has nothing to do with what we do as humans. Nor is the solid evidence that in 50 years there could be global cooling. Remember in the 1970s when they said we were headed for an ice age? They really are just guessing!

  6. My thermostat is set at 79. If I know it's going to be cool overnight then I turn off the AC and open the windows and use fans to pull the cool air into the house. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans which run most of the time as well.

As for Global Warming and the like, I remember a few years ago they had this big global warming/climate change awareness concert (Live Earth??) on television and I remember sitting in my house sweating with the thermostat at 87 and laughing my ass off about the absurdity of it all. Same thing goes for Greenpeace, Sierra Club and the like.

There time, money, and resources could better be spent purchasing land and property for preservation instead of lobbying Congress and ultimately doing the same bidding they chastise the global corporations for.

    Agorism FTW!

  7. I can tell Rush it was no conspiracy the other day. It was actually 104 degrees in Central Park UNLESS they know how to program our metabolism when we're asleep.

  8. A bit of meteorological imbalance:
The Lewis-Clark trail over the Bitteroot Mts out this way is still
    blocked by huge snowdrifts. Latest
in the season since those guys walked across...and snow season is
    coming any day.
