The tragedy in Oslo

It is now just coming to light that the 32-year old man Anders Behring Breivik wanted to target ex-PM of Norway Gro Harlem Brundtland who led 3 Labor Party governments in the 80's and 90's and is known as the "mother of the nation." All told 76 people tragically lost their lives last Friday and after bombing Oslo, Norway's capital Breivik gunned down scores of Labor Party youths on the island of Utoya. Apparently he left alot and I mean alot of online rants, manifestos on the Web filled with hateful and violent and extremist rhetoric which begs the question with such a lengthy cybertrail were authorities asleep at the switch? I mean how could he do what he did, was nobody keeping tabs on the guy? Well now we know Breivik is some kind of right-wing fanatic motivated by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim sentiment and according to Liberal Theory there exists some kind of mysterious, mystical connection between all right-wing groups. In other words we are all guilty, somehow implicated, Palin/Bachmann so please Curb your Free Speech. Breivik wanted to spark some kind of Crusade and transformation over there, prevent "cultural Marxism" and Islamism from taking over Europe. Expect liberals to make hay and politicize Tragedy here:)

  1. I bear no culpability for the actions of another.

  2. Of course the lefties want to lump us in with the sicko, but sorry, that is not what we're all about. We want people to be responsible for themselves, so this guy alone is responsible for his actions.

  3. Bill Clinton got the ball rolling when he practically lumped in Rush Limbaugh and Tim McVeigh then Keith Olbermann jumped on the anti-free speech bandwagon when late-term abortionist George Tiller was gunned down in church and somehow Bill O'Reilly was responsible. I think eventually they want to curb free speech altogether.

  4. Speech is one thing. Actions quite another.

  5. What I want to know is how they knew this guy's name before even reaching the island and how this guy was aprehended so quickly and easily?

  6. You know in some way it reminds me of the day after 9/11. The day before nobody had the foggiest notion anything of this magnitude could happen then the next day we got names and they got a Carvel ice cream cone on such and such a date, went to a jiggly joint etc etc. Just sayin'

Do you use that same ethos when speaking of Muslims? I've read on many a rightwing blog that all Muslims are terrorists.

People can't expect that sort of bigotry NOT to be thrown back in their faces when a conservative rightwing Christian goes on a terrorist rampage.

If you lump all Muslims together as terrorists, like the crazies on the right, then you should expect people to do the same when a crazy Christian commits mass murder.

  8. The best thing we can learn from the tragedy in Oslo is to never ever EVER trust anyone in a uniform.

  9. Soap in your very first statement above seems to me you're implying the authorites let this happen. Reading about the very slow and I mean slow reaction time of the police in this tragedy and then they were counting some of the same bodies twice and that gave a higher initial figure of the dead. They are either in on something or simply incompetent.

  10. Shaw: "Do you use that same ethos when speaking of Muslims? I've read on many a rightwing blog that all Muslims are terrorists."

But not here. The worst I've said is the issue of Muslims and terrorism is a very complicated one not easy to sort out or to put another way most Muslims are not terrorists but most terrorists are Muslims. Shaw how do Muslims feel about gays and women? Just wondering why so many liberals of late have been so passionate about defending all things Islam as in many ways Islam seems a backward religion to me and yet when it comes to conservative Christians OMG!!!

  11. We presume more may come out.
IMO, he was insane, and much like
that killer Laughner will be declared incompetent to stand trial. How come we find the 'incompetents' AFTER they
    act?

  12. Which means he'll probably be put in a high-security institution somewhere. If he knew how to set a bomb, load a gun and aim precisely and do all of this in a timely fashion then at least on some level some part of him was not insane. Now someone who thinks he's an eagle and jumps off a building to his death, that's insane. BB let me throw this out to you, even if he was insane he still had the free will to not do the act so he should still be punished. Now let's say everyone he killed he thought were Martians who were invading the Earth and he was thereby saving the planet, then I would agree with you. How does that rub you?
