Don't go to the movies much anymore. Most of the great movies have already been made. Ever wonder how many movies are actually in existence? Has to be astronomical. Out of the sheer number of movies that have been made how many are actually worth watching? For me a golden age was the 70s throw in the late 60s. Do you have a favorite movie critic? Rotten Tomatoes - BOTH Citizen Kane and Casablanca got 99% fresh scores. So who was the 1% who didn't like them and why? I wanna hear their thoughts. Roger Ebert tended to overreact to movies he didn't like. You can criticize the excessive violence in I Spit On Your Grave but I found it interesting as a cult classic. Ebert thought it was the worst movie ever made. More worthy candidates for that one. How hard is it to be a movie critic anyway? All you have to do is meet a deadline. You ain't spitting chickens for a living. Bruce Lee movies. He actually made fighting off an army of fifty men believable that's how well the fight scenes were choreographed. The only one to come close imo is Jet Li.
Thoughts on the movies?
No thoughts - I prefer ones that make me laugh and am a fan of the TV series 'Band of Brothers' and 'Gettysburg'. Up at 3AM today to take middle daughter to the airport. Small town hours, sleepy people dragging the suitcases up to the counter. Long lines 2-3 people sometimes. I parked in a no parking zone by the door. Police car right next to me running, but no one in it. Tempting----

ReplyDeleteand traffic cameras?
You think Peter Boyle could play him in a movie? Who would you pick?
ReplyDeleteOnly comedies? My tastes are eclectic. I'll watch something nobody's heard of before. Most Oscars don't go to comedies. I'm all over the map.
ReplyDeleteYou've probably even watched 'Guys and Dolls' with Marlon Brando.
ReplyDeleteIt was on PBS recently and I did watch parts of it. Goes good with the CB.
ReplyDeleteMusicals. You can sing to your wife "I'm going to the basement now to smoke my pipe and play with my train set." Dance and skip a bit.
ReplyDeleteMusic Man - 76 Trombones led the many trains.
ReplyDeleteEvery Dean Martin movie has 3 basic elements: drinking, smoking and women.
ReplyDelete"The Graduate" - lots of Simon and Garfunkel.
ReplyDeleteAre you replacing Robert Ebert?
