The real motive behind censorship and suppression

OR confronting people with an uncomfortable truth becomes a threat

To kind of cap things off then - some of my themes of late, the control issue and what's really behind it. The human urge to censor is a powerful one and really applies across the board, Right and Left have been equally guilty thoughout history but lately the Left have been the bad guys and the Right comes across now as more and more the champions of what liberals used to be about, freedom of thought and expression. No matter, people who practice censorship and suppression and it could be an individual, a group of individuals, a political group or movement or at its most pervasive and dangerous a government or the State, be it Right or Left they are threatened by something. People who tell you how to think or how you should think, over time if enough people think alike it becomes a form of political correctness and its sanctions for dealing with those who think outside the box are a kind of form of mind control else why the need to punish those who think differently and view things in their own sometimes unique ways? The whole Political Correctness Movement is threatened by something, the free use of your mind and its awesome power and in this respect it's more than an annoyance or a nuisance, it's a form of evil and I'm applying this in a general sense not to particular individuals. The mind represents freedom of thought and inquiry so those attackers of the Miss USA runnerup Carrie Prejean let's say, they are not only offended by what she's saying relating to traditional marriage but they are threatened by the mere thought she may be right. Many many years ago I offered to buy some pro-life videos for libraries here in Westchester County NY, should've been a done deal since freedom of thought and expression is the very foundation of their existence according to them but the sheer resistance I encountered in my own county from liberal librarians and pro-abortion groups prove to me they were threatened by something, threatened by IDEAS since the films in question were merely informational in nature, popping a movie into your VCR is not the same as banning abortion but because Z doesn't give up my persistence paid off over time and the county library system agreed to carry one of the films and the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion was allowed to get theirs in too. Geez was that so hard? The nature of the enemy is US, we're the threat but then again if THEY'RE so threatened by us then it means we have some power, the power of our minds and the ability to express that which they hate so really when you stop to think about it us conservatives shouldn't be so down in the dumps of late. If you get put on a list you're important, consider it a compliment and the sheer force of our ideas will prevail over time. The Death of Conservatism? not by a long shot!!

  1. Why Z, all this utterance of thinking and using one's mind is getting to be (dare I say) Randyish?

You've hit the nail squarely on the head though. It's about removing one's ability to think.

  2. You've just hit it my pal! You just got the million dollar answer!! They don't want you to think. You know all through my life I've been bothered by something, something has disturbed me about certain people and herd mentalities, something has given me the willies, the heebie-jeebies about politics in general and the things I regularly read about and saw on the news but I could never put my finger on it, like the fragment of a dream you just had that you can't recall, it became the shadow of a fear.

It's about removing one's ability to think. You just put a name on it and isn't it downright creepy? You see reading that novel made me see the Bigger Picture.

  3. I know you and Beth had your reservations about her with regards to a specific subject that is both near and dear to your hearts. But, her whole philosophy and subsequently that book (and The Fountainhead as well) is about man's mind being the sole source of his survival.

It goes back to the anology that I use about the person stranded on an island or in the wilderness.

You can bank on faith if you'd like thus essentially subplanting your mind with mysticism or some other such thing. OR, you can engage your mind and use it to live. The former is not going to build you a shelter, start a fire, provide you with fish and/or fruit to eat. The latter very much will.

If you cease using your mind, your only option is blind faith. But blind faith in what?? A politician? A false promise? Would you rather take the reins of a runaway carriage of would you rather sit back and have it take you over the side of a cliff?

  4. good post z! we're all entitled to opinions, thoughts, ideas - - what bothers me most though is people who insist that theirs is THE only correct opinion, thought or idea. for some reason libs in particular seem to feel that there is absolutely nothing else other than what they believe or feel. i'm sure we all have that tendency -- to think we're right, or ours is the only way to be - - but libs tend to want to create rules and laws to ensure that their way is the only way....not a good thing.

  5. First of all, I want to commend you on fighting to get that video into your library. Knowledge is power and indeed the pro-aborts like to keep people in the dark so that they can continue the disgusting practice of killing innocent children.

On Friday as I was running around, I was listening to Glenn Beck on the radio and he had on a guest who was discussing how the libs won't be using the Fairness Doctrine anymore to silence the Conservative voices, but how they will do things like require stations to carry more local programming, or in the name of "diversity" use quotas for station ownership and/or programming that in turn will most likely be more liberal in nature.

  6. Well with my own experience of getting a pro-life film into the Westchester Library System and with pro-choicers in general they are threatened by the IDEA that abortion may be wrong, indeed most honest people have a sneaking suspicion it is. Pro-Choice may be the polite, civil and rational position but at its heart is a threat. Joe Sobran called it the averted gaze. One of the main and recurring themes at my blog is that everything can be psychoanalyzed, this then is the real reason behind all censorship and suppression, behind the control is something threatening, something that scares them.
