WOW!! Nuclear power plants & offshore drilling

There was enough last night in President Obama's first State of the Union address to warm the cockles of any Republican heart but I wanted to hear more about his mysterious jobs bill that he wants on his desk without delay (are we allowed to ponder it or just accept the omniscient wisdom of Our Leader?). He rapped on about clean energy, climate change, even gays in the military but the thing was JOBS JOBS JOBS in 2010. He got into regulatory reform of the financial markets a little, said he doesn't want to punish the banks (codespeech - "I'm not a Marxist you know") and really touted all the tax cuts he's signed, small business, capital gains, the works and it was said a couple of Republicans got that Chris Matthews tingle in the leg area but won't admit it (oh is that a semen stain?). About 33 minutes (or was that 31?) into the speech as the ever-helpful pundits pointed out afterwards he finally brought up health-care and said part of the problem was he didn't explain it better - oh no buddy we heard you loud and clear. At this point about 60% through the 71-minute speech the Jim Beam Sour Mash was jerking me in and out of consciousness so I had to catch some recaps afterwards. I always skip the counterspeech from the Opposing Party later, what's the point? it's an anticlimax. The Speech? it was a'ight, he struck some of the right Reaganesque notes early on, despite our hardships he was hopeful about our country's future.

So there was Biden on the Today Show this morning, first thing he said was he expects unemployment to grow this spring until Meredith ever the helpful msm'er corrected him ("you mean employment") but if I were doing the interview I would have just let the guy rap for the sheer fun of it, the line would have gone down into our ever-growing list of Bidenisms. So the prez and Biden are heading down to Florida to give an $8 million federal grant for some light rail project, that'd be good.

My favorite State of the Union of all time? When Gerry Ford got up in front of the nation and said "the State of the Union is...not good." I'm sure the Malcontent will correct me on some of my points.

  1. An $8 million grant for a light rail fiscal boondoggle. Yeah....that sounds like we're on the right path.

  2. I don't believe most of what Obama says, unless he is talking about spending our money (or money we don't have actually), so I don't even listen because he doesn't mean it.

  3. Well soap I guess after reading Atlas Shrugged I got a little caught up in the whole railroad scene. What's 8 mil anyway?

Here's what I've been pondering of late and I just sampled this morning some of the blogging commentary out there concerning the Speech: partisanship. By that I mean not sound criticisms but this -- let's say after his term or terms are over he's done some good, maybe not a whole lot but some good will we as conservatives admit this?, will we give a fair assessment of the man and his presidency? Are we capable of that? Now again I've read some of the criticism out there of last night's speech and much of it is backed up but I have to say there were a couple of pleasant surprises at the least. Now re Obama's sincerity or lack thereof what politician pray tell do you really think means it most of the time (I know soapie Ron Paul)?

  4. OK it was bad form for him to insult the Supremes with them sitting there in the front row and there was the tendency to still blame some things on Bush but partisanship is the main reason I stopped listening to Hannity and Rush a long time ago. Partisanship is so utterly predictable that I can define it as being able to write Michelle Malkin's column for her even before she writes it, maybe not the same wit and style but the same points. I probably would've linked her to my blogroll by now except for the ideology so early on I went with people like Sobran instead. Reading the other blogs this morning I got the sense that I should have criticized the speech more but cha'know I'm going with it. I don't think I can take the predictable viewpoints coming from Left and Right over the next four years and so basically I was trying to glean something positive from the address last night.

  5. I do appreciate you trying to find a silver lining, really I do, I just didn't have the stomach to listen to the man this time.

  6. There is a TON of partisanship (and thus a huge lack of credibility) circling around at this moment. There's no question about that. I can and have commended the president when he's done a good job on something and defended him when the criticisms have come to petty and juvenile attacks (teleprompter, the dog thing, etc.). I can do that because I'm not a party guy. I have objectivity. The majority of people don't I'm afraid to say. Take that whole Scott Brown win for example....the party faithful are falling all over themselves just as they did with Palin and the everyone else (hell remember when Jeb Bush's name was being thrown around way back when). No one stopped to THINK about who Brown is/was. Hardly anyone thought to themselves "Hey, how is it this guy is supposed to represent the opposition voice to Obama's healthcare agenda when this guy voted for pretty much the same healthcare plan as a state senator of Massachusettes??"

And it doesn't end there. Consider the "leaders" in the GOP now. Guys like Cantor, Boehner, etc.

These guys come out swinging in opposition to Obama's spending orgy but had nothing to say on the matter while Bush was doing the same. And hell....these guys also voted for TARP.

But, to be certain, it's not just Ron Paul Z. There were a number of House and Senate members that smelt the shit when Bush was doing it and voted against his bailout. It is those folks that have the credibility to now criticize Obama on the matter.

  7. The President and many politicians think we're all stupid, don't they?! He gave us his "shut up and sit down, I'm your god and have spoken" speech last night. We got his "Oh, we have to all get along ..." whining side of Comrade Zero too. But why? He doesn't even need the Republicans. Demoncrats are in the majority.

But you see, he can't add. I'm convinced of that now.

Also, it's more of the commie lib touchy feely crap and they're up to something evil again. Comrade Zero keeps demonizing the 'special interests'. All the 'special interests' are the government. The government is the problem! You want to create more jobs? [he doesn't] THEN GET THE GOVERNMENT THE HECK OUT OF THE WAY! Stop penalizing business for doing business by burdening them with asinine regulations and paperwork.

By the way, businesses don't pay taxes. Consumers do. Yep, that's right. Economy 101. No company has ever paid taxes from it's own pockets, consumers do. Try running a business for 5 minutes and not make a sizeable profit. All costs get passed along to the consumer or you'll last about that long: 5 minutes.

Hey you Government people ... here's More Economy 101: Businesses create jobs, not government. Stop making businesses collect taxes for the government.

I am really tired of Zero's condesending way of speaking to us.

Oh, and get this! We also got the communist side of Comrade Zero in the speech.

Now He The Anointed One Speaking To The Great Unwashed says, that all students will only have to pay back 10% of their student loans only if they chose a "public service job". Comrade Zero thinks this is a stimulus?! This is not a stimulus! This is not only idiotic, it's a dangerous, foolish presidency!

Unemployment is now at about 16%. People are losing their homes, their fortunes, and some their lives to despair.

And now, the coup de grĂ¢ce, the government claims it needs more money to bail out more Unions with the new 'Jobs Bill'! Oh, didn't you get that memo? It's not a 'stimulus' anymore, the new PC term is Jobs Bill. [source]

"Hey, gummit, turn up that heat! The frogs not hoppin' out yet." America is just about to get really cooked.

Anyway, I get it now. Just like a friend of mine blogged about recently, the fool CAN'T ADD!! Another victim of public schooling no doubt. [shaking head in disgust]

Also, off subject, did you see the Supreme Court Judge Samuel Alito shake his head and mouth "That's Wrong!"? He was disgusted over Comrade Zero's open criticism and misquote of a court ruling. [In all my 50 yrs I have never seen a sitting President do that openly!] Judge Alito was sitting next to the Affirmative Action Poster Child Sonia Sotomayor. She looks stoned, as usual, or maybe it's just that it's another of Zero's boring Let's Destroy America speeches. [yawn]

And, get this, I heard MSNBC host Chris Matthews say he (speaking of Comrade Zero) "forgot he was black". [source] Whoa Nelly! That one made me LOL.

  8. That's what I mean soapie. Sure there is alot of legitimate criticism of Obama right now but how much is legit and how much is just partisanship (partisanship being a close brother of ideology)? Here's the formula right now in the rightie blogosphere: Bush was good, Obama is evil but I say why can't they BOTH suck?

  9. I hear ya Sparky I just want everyone to keep it real.

  10. "..why can't they BOTH suck?" Reminds me of ol Ben Franklin:
his son William remained a Tory
    loyalist during the Revolutionary
War. ('course he was illegitimate, ol Ben being the frisky sort...)
..in some moral respects they both
    sort of sucked, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  11. LOL

The beauty of they both sucked is there's no ideology. The Left thinks Bush sucked, the Right now thinks Obama sucks. Reminds me of when I went to Mt. St. Michael in the Bronx and during class two guys started fighting with each other,

    "you're a dick!"
    "no you're a dick!"

then some other student chimed in with "you're both dicks" and everyone shut up. That about sums it up.
